Hi,
I had an emergency c section last week amd delivered our baby girl at 34+1 weeks on March 8th.Thankfully she has been doing well and we have been discharged from the hospital. I have received a letter this morning for bcg vaccine for 26th March. Looks like it is a live vaccine i was a bit worried given she is preterm. Should we wait couple more weeks before getting her the vaccine as she is so tiny and fragile and am worried she might not be able to manage the pain... anyone with preterm babies has had experience with this please? Thanks

I can’t comment specifically on the BCG jab but from my understanding all vaccinations are given to premature babies based on their actual age. If you are worried, give your babies consultant a quick call?

Whats the reason for it as it’s not a routine vaccine? My premature baby had her vaccines in line with actual age though if that helps.

I think this vaccine is given because me and partner are from India which is tagged as high risk country for TB

Thanks for the advice.. it's good to know that I will check with them to see if they can push the vaccine to later date based on her adjusted age.
