IUGR baby where to buy clothes

Currently pregnant with a IUGR baby measuring >5th centile.

She’s expected to arrive early and tiny. Where did you buy clothes if your baby was around 3lbs or less? maybe I’m being stupid but most places seem to have tiny baby but it’s like 5.5lbs which I think could still be too big

I just bought tiny baby stuff and it was fine. A bit big for a while but didn't matter

fairypeasant · 06/02/2023 22:37

Asda were good for us, small sizes.

Thatsnotevenmyusername · 06/02/2023 22:44

Next do an up to 5lbs range. They were big to begin with but shrink a bit with washing. My DD wore them for about 8 weeks. Sainsbury’s have up to 5lb size too. Asda’s tiny baby range is quite big so if your LO is going to be below 5lb I would say Next is your best bet. My DD was born 4.5lbs on 0.1st centile. Hope this helps x

Sainsbury’s did a 'tiny baby' size but I don't know if they still do it. Worth checking. My first DC was IUGR and only weighed 1.5kilos at birth. Don't buy too many though as they grow very quickly. Within a month DC was wearing 0-3 month clothing.

M&S have a premature range and it's for 3-4lbs

Next, George @ Asda, Sainsburys, John Lewis and M&S. Most of the tiny sizes are online.

Is baby coming early? If they might need a stay in the neonatal unit, it's good to get footless babygros, as they wear a little attachment on their foot to monitor heartrate and oxygen levels.

Good luck! My IUGR baby is now 20months and very much average so they can catch up.

Sainsburys have a preemie collection tuclothing.sainsburys.co.uk/c/baby/baby-premature?clickOrigin=header:click:nav:baby:collections:premature-baby-clothing

@CrispAppleStrudels glad to hear your little one has caught up

thank you for the advice! I’ll look out for some footless just incase. DS ended up in NICU though a healthy weight so I guess it’s always good to prepare

yes likely to be early due to placental insufficiency syndrome. Keeping a close eye but they will decide when to deliver based on if the growth stops etc. I’m still really hoping to make it to 36/37 weeks atm though, currently she’s below the 5th for all measurements x

Sounds like with my DD1. They thought they would have to deliver at 30 weeks but with very close monitoring I got to 37 weeks before being induced. Good luck x

Our little lady arrived weighing 4lbs 6oz two weeks ago and this was an immediate struggle for us!

Tesco and Next both have an under 5lbs range.
My Mum bought us a lot of stuff from this website and it's all in a range of sizes 3-5lbs, 4-6lbs mainly, fits well and is good quality.

Tesco do some great little sleepsuits and vests that Velcro open all the way around so you don't have to worry about trying to bend their tiny arms into sleeves etc! Just assemble the clothes around them!
The neonatal unit were very impressed and said they hadn't seen those before.

Sprinklerainbows · 07/02/2023 08:12

@Thatsnotevenmyusername oh wow that’s so good to hear you got to 37 weeks. I’m really hoping that’s the case for us! It’s horrible feeling so out of control x

Good. My IUGR baby is now grown up, and you'd never know.

Caramac555 · 07/02/2023 22:49

Mothercare used to do very tiny stuff so possibly ebay might have some of their things.

My IUGR boy never stopped eating, he's now 11 and on the 91st centile for height.

His sister was also slightly small but not to the same extent, about 5lbs at 39 weeks. She's nearly 14 and still petite, I think she won't get much taller than 5ft1 or 2.

Sprinklerainbows · 08/02/2023 22:39

@fairypeasant oh that’s good to know!

@Caramac555 oh bless! That’s good to know they are doing well!
My son was born on the 50th but now has levelled out on the 25th, he’s small but clearly the size he should be! Hopefully she’ll do the same x

Our DC was born more than 2 months early. The first few weeks DC was not yet able to wear clothes, as weight was too low for them to comfortably wear them. When the time came, there were loads of parents on the unit whose baby had grown out of their first tiny clothes, so in the end we did not really need any clothes buying, as the vast majority was gifted anyway by fellow NNU-parents (who, also for mental support, are total life savers). We then passed them on to a new generation, only keeping one of the very first outfits as a souvenir. Hang in there, OP, things will turn out ok.

You can buy prem baby clothes from Next online, Asda online, boots online, Sainsburys online and the little angels nappies in Asda in 0 are for prem babies.
Tesco tiny baby are smaller than everywhere else so up to 5lb for the next step.
Hope everything goes well x
