Cow and gate pre term formula

Hi,

My baby girl was born 10 weeks premature (30 + 3 days) she was in the hospital for 5 weeks whilst in hospital she was on a mix of breast milk and cow and gate pre term ready made formula.
When we left hospital I was given cow and gate preterm formula powder but since then she has been constipated constantly and constantly straining and is so uncomfortable on her back (only when I'm awake) and is only comfortable laying on her side or laying on me.

I have spoke to the midwife/community nurse and they said this is normal and can take a while for them to get use to it but it's to the point she is constantly straining and can see she is uncomfortable I have tried belly massages and bicycle legs but this seems to make her more uncomfortable.
I raised my concerns about cow and gate and she said I could try normal formula ( I have kendamil) which I'm going to see if that makes a difference.

Any one else experienced this or have any advice anything will help

Is she actually crying in pain or are her stools hard? It could just be normal baby behaviour if I'm honest. It can take them a while to get used to the sensations associated with pooing.

She's not crying at all she just groans and mumbles a lot whilst straining.
When she finally does go it is a runny consistency.
My community nurse/midwife said to try her on full term formula which I started last night.

How is she today?

Was up all night with her as she wasn't comfortable laying on her back on only me or on her side. But this morning she did a massive dirty nappy this one was smooth and not runny and lumpy like before hand which was a relief so she settled down. But as soon as I got her up for her feed she started the whole straining again. And being uncomfortable but I'm guessing she is trying to get the other formula out of her system.

It's difficult to know, especially as how she was acting before could have been normal baby behaviour. Are you still seeing any HCPs?

This honestly does sound normal OP! Babies have to learn how to pass stools and they make a lot of noise in the process. As long as the poo isn't hard and there's no blood or other worrying signs, it's fine x

They have changed her formula to SMA gold prem so see how she gets on she's still see the straining a lot. The nurse at the hospital think it might be a milk allergy due to her symptoms of the straining she has swollen eyes after I fed her in the cow and gate, the dryness around her eyes nose and forehead as well and her itching her face and her sounding like she has a blocked nose as well.
So we are given this new formula a week to see if she improves first.
