Hi all, my baby was almost born to term so not severely prem, but she is now 9 weeks and am noticing she is not hitting some of the "milestones" I've read should occur from 6 weeks such as social smiling. Has anyone any similar experience? Should I be correcting age?

Yes I would correct her age 3 weeks is a long time in the life of newborn my 33 weeker definitely did things by god corrected age.

Hello! My baby was weirdly born spontaneously at 36+6 too and he was definitely behind on milestones. We noticed roundabout the 10 week mark when he still wasn't really smiling as much as I read he should. So from then on I used his adjusted age. I read a couple of articles that said for babies born between 34 and 37 weeks they should catch up to their age by 6 to 12 months. My baby is now nearly 7 months and I think he's largely caught up to his milestones so don't worry.

Congratulations btw Smile

Hi, DD2 was 36+6 as well.

Yes most things you should measure on corrected age ie from their due date, not their actual age. So you should expect smiles at around 9 weeks actual/6 weeks corrected.

The one exception is weaning which I believe is advised to be done at 6 months actual age (though depending on development etc) due to nutrient stores from pregnancy running out.

But also of course these milestones don’t happen exactly the same time for all babies whether full term or not, there is always a range.
