Hi everyone.

So my baby was born at 35 weeks. She's 5 months now. But should I be treating her more like a 4 month old?
I mean for things like weaning? Should I hold off as long as I can?

Thanks

Congrats on your baby. Similar story my boy is 5 months but was born at 34 weeks and 4 days weighing 4lb 13oz so he's really just shy of 4 months. How much did your dd weigh?
Ds has hit his targets on most things based on when he was born not his due date. However weight and height are measured by due date until he's 2. Hv told me to wean at 26 weeks as recommended as long as he can support his head and were happy

DS was born at 36 weeks and I never treated him any different and he’s fine!

Aprilmightmemynewname · 19/03/2018 20:08

Ds born @35 weeks took a while to catch up size wise but hit milestones spot on time.

Icklepickle101 · 19/03/2018 20:08

He was 7lb13 though so didn’t ever seem like a premature baby!

FluffyFlowerFace · 19/03/2018 20:10

Woah ickle he would have been huge full term!

Icklepickle101 · 19/03/2018 20:13

Don’t, I’m pregnant with dc2 and all I keep hearing is how big she is! Their dad was over 12lbs though Shock

Tiredmum100 · 19/03/2018 20:13

Dc1 was born at 36 weeks. I just treated him as the age he was in regards to weaning etc. He's 6 now and absolutely fine.

vanessa6734 · 19/03/2018 20:15

Not really. My DC was born at 35 weeks also, I still used normal weaning guidelines and things but I did find size wise, and hitting milestones all seemed to be around a month slower.

Bliss says to wean at actual age rather than adjusted. Same for inoculations. Everything else, I guess we played by ear, and still are! (31 weekend, now 5.5)

Congrats. I hope the early arrival wasn't too stressful and you are coping with the new routine! It does get better.

DD was 35 weeks too and stayed solidly on 50% centile through to whenever it is they stop charting. She became quite sporty, possibly because she never got to that chubby baby stage.

This was 10 years ago when her health visitor was keen to get the cohort onto baby rice between 16-20 weeks...I tried it...I waited a bit. DD didn't seem to be too desperate for food. Likewise I held back a bit with meat and veg. By about 3 weeks.

If your baby gets grumbly and grouchy because they are hungry, you need to reconsider the timing of the new food regime.

So I guess I compromised and secretly age adjusted the diet regime (because it was Christmas hols).

When my 30 weeker was born, her consultants told us that for things like weaning and vaccinations then you go by their actual age but for developmental milestones it's corrected age until their first birthday when they've usually caught up. As a baby she was miles behind her peers but now at 3 1/2 you'd never ever know she's a preemie Smile

Thank you so much for all your help everyone.

She was born at 4lb 12

She's exclusively breastfed but the last few days has been taking a little bit of baby rice really well.
