Hello lovely ladies, my little girl was born boxing day at 33 week ( although was suspected of being 35) since shes been in special care shes been breathing on her own controlling her own temp, and shes feeding from bottle never needed a tube. My partner and i are talking to the docyor tomorrow about her coming home as shes passing all the criteria shes being weighed tomorrow. She was 4lbs11 at birth and been drinking between 25-35ml every 3-4 hours shes waking up to demand her feed. Scared they will have to keep her in but my partner goes away with work on 4th for a month and doesnt want to go if she still there. Any advice from anyone whos had similar situation?

No sorry but didn’t want you to go unanswered. Congratulations on your new LO and hopefully someone will be along soon Thanks

Congratulations on your new arrival.

I had twins at 33weeks. One was 3lbs 12oz, the other 4lbs 11oz. I feel all you are feeling x2.
Mine were in Special Care for 3weeks and 2weeks respectively and it was hard work getting to/from Hospital to the twin still there when the other twin was home.

However, this too shall pass for you and you learn sooo much from Paediatric nurses that you will come home an expert. This time of year too with colds and flu about, you need to ensure you won't have too many (well meaning) visitors at home to avoid any virus's etc bro g passed to your little one post discharge from hospital.

Honestly, you just take it day by day. Use common sense and don't agree to anything which feels wrong.
Good luck!

That's great news. It sounds like she is doing really well for a 33 weeker!

My DD was born at 32 weeks and came home after 2.5 weeks after doing all the same things as your baby.
How long is your partner away for? I found it quite tough when DD came home as she was then completely breastfed and went from feeding in hospital every 3 hours to closer to 2 hours but she was an Ib less than your baby but I’d make sure you some support for when your partner is away

That's great news. My 33 weeker was born on 21st Dec and he's not doing nearly so well as she is. Think we've probably got another week or so of NNU/SCBU ahead of us as he's still tube fed and only coming off IV fluids tomorrow. Hope you enjoy your time as a family before he goes away.

Zioanna · 30/12/2017 23:27

Congratulations! My DS was born at 34 weeks and weighed 4lbs 11oz. He had to be tube fed at first and ended up in SCBU for 2.5 weeks, but it was only as long due to jaundice. He would have been allowed home earlier otherwise. Good luck.

MiniMaxi · 01/01/2018 19:34

Congrats OP! My DS was born at 33+6 and came home two weeks later. He was allowed to go home once he was feeding well enough (bottle fed as I had no supply) and had regained a little weight. Good luck!

Congratulations Flowers
I find it hard to believe that a 33 weeker would go home after just a week. She must be doing really well or is more weeks than you thought perhaps?
How's it going now she's home?
