Traveling 130 miles with little girl on oxygen?

Hi everyone

I've just found out my dad (who I haven't seen in 6 years) is in hospital and doesn't have long left. We've never had a strong relationship and now I'm a bit regretful of that and I want to see him incase the worst happens and bring my daughter to see him considering its his first grandchild.

Issue is I live in Bournemouth he is in Bromley. 260 round trip in total.

Is it safe to travel this far for that period of time with a baby on oxygen? We will only be there for 1/2 hours then straight back in the car to travel home. I'm just worried about if something happens or if she starts crying on the motorway etc. She is relatively good on her oxygen currently on lowest amount 0.01 with sats of 98

How old is she?

If she's still an infant and in her infant car seat that's a long long time to be in a car with her chest constrained to only be out for 30 mins.

She's 5 weeks corrected 5 months in actual

What are the rules on how long a baby should be in the seat? It's been a while for me! What about taking the train and using a sling or Pram

I would get medical advice - as others say it's a very long time in a car seat, plus you will need to speak to your insurers about driving with oxygen (it's declarable as its pressurised gas and in an accident can explode )

Presumably you've travelled in a car with her before so your insurance likely know. It is a long time in the car even for a baby without o2 so you'd def need to factor in reasonable breaks. Could you not stop overnight somewhere so you can take longer to get there and she can have a longer car break?

Sian I am so sorry you are in this terrible situation. There is absolutely no way any of us on MN can answer this. You need proper medical advice. I would say though that your daughter is your future and your Dad may not even be in a position healthwise to take in your visit. The conversation you need to have with your dad can happen via other communication methods if you are runnIng out of time. A letter, an email a Skype call can all be used to bridge the gap if it is not possible to make the trip.
