Crocheted hats

So I've got 7 crocheted hats that ive crocheted, a range of sizes but all to fit premature babies, one for what I would like to think was the absolute smallest a baby could be at birth !

Does anyone know if premature babies are allowed to have chrocheted hats on ? ( this question just came to mind!!!!)

Not sure what to do with them as would like to give them to my local special care unit or individuals on here but wouldn't know what size so this giving to a unit would be easier.

Any thoughts much appreciated.

What a kind gesture! Warmth and comfort are the most important factors and if you have a variety of sizes, then great. Are they a little stretchy? My daughter's head circumference was a little over 20cm at birth (small for 25 weeks) if that helps you at all.

We have some little knitted hats for my lo, which we picked up from the donations made to the hospital. I'll keep them forever and wish I could thank the person who made them directly.

Thanks both, I just feel it's a lovely thing to do to help, I'm in the middle of crocheting a little blanket also, any other suggestions on things I can chrochet for premies? Xx

Are premies aloud comforters (mini square blanket type things)? Was thinking so that if someone knows they are going to have a premie they would have a comforter with them a few nights then the premie could have it in the incubator with them with parents scent for closeness? XXXX

I work in a neonatal unit and our babies have knitted triangles that can be put in the incubator and then taken by mum when expressing to help with 'let down'
Yes the babies can have crocheted hats and blankets. Small blankets are better to fit in the inbubatirs,
To be honest, I don't know much about crochet, I was thinking of tiny cardies but would they have big 'holes' in the pattern? If so cardies would be no good as little fingers,arms will catch in the holes,
Oh, just thought, no ribbons or ties on the hats please,

You are doing a good thing, we get through loads as they get washed in a hot wash and go all baggy,

Incubators not inbubatirs

When I had my last baby there were tiny knitted/crocheted blankets made by (I think) the WI in all the plastic cribs, each one different. They were the perfect size for the cribs and also, we discovered, the car seat. We still have ours, baby is 7 months and has outgrown it but it's a lovely memory.

The NICU DS was in regularly run appeals for people to knit and donate hats, blankets and triangles. The babies then take the items they've used home with them as NICU can't reuse them as they can't be washed at a high enough temperature. I really cherish the blankets etc that we brought home with DS.

Wow what a lovely thing to do I still have the little crochet blankets my son had 2 the 1st one was so tiny I kid you not it barely fit over him at his smallest about 4lb 10 and then another one which seemed huge but wouldn't cover his legs now at 16 months the bigger one we used at home until around 6 months I remember being given a memory box with this stuff In and was really touched by it
