One Year Who Won't Sleep!

DS goes to sleep easily at 19:00 but every 2/3 hours wakes then and cries, coughs himself into a state as he wants milk! We do try offering water. He is then awake from 05:30 and wants to play! We thought it might be a growth spurt but it's going on too long. We are not push overs either and do try the letting him cry game. Any ideas? We are exhausted! X

Hi fraggle. Yes my dd has been a nightmare at night. She still wakes once for milk. She was then awake for 2-3 hours.....
I followed the nhs sleep guide (under controlled crying ) After milk I put her down then go in after 5 mins and pat. Then leave for 10, then 15. It has worked and its a tired cry. It could not carry on as it was unfortunately.

It is not fun. Look up controlled crying on there. It sounds so harsh, but with going back to work it cannot continue like it was.

Before trying controlled crying I'd seriously consider dietary intolerances. The only babies I've met who still sleep that badly are normally in discomfort (like my son :( ) I'd try going dairy and soya free for two weeks and see if that helps. For my kids and a good many friends' its worked wonders. Plus cc wont work if your child is in pain.

All tested and no pain. 5 mins of moaning will not equal neglect.

When you say goes to sleep easily at 7pm, how does he go to sleep? On his own or fed/cuddled? With milk or without?

If you're going to do controlled crying, it seems to work best to do it at bedtime or naptime as they are most tired then (and you are least tired) rather than middle of the night.
