NCT close caboo sling use with preemie

My DD is now 2 weeks old (gestational age 37 weeks). She is approx 4lbs, sho looks a bit lost in her pram and I was thinking about trying her out in her sling (close caboo) but I'm not sure if she is too small for it at the moment.

Has anyone used a caboo sling with their preemie?

A stretchy sling can be great with a preemie and some places encourage use ot stretchy slings for kangaroo care. However pay very close attention to TICKS. It could be worth going to a local sling meet or library drop in just to get someone to go through it with you.

I used a stretchy wrap sling w dd from about 5lbs I think. They're a great comfort for prems they love to be so close to you esp after what they've been through. Yes to the ticks guidance though.

Agree with above posters. I am using a Moby wrap with my DD. Have been since about 5lbs too. I got it for about £15-20 on eBay. It's a godsend!

Karime was a stretchy sling I used for a long time with my 28 weeker. Was wonderful but as mentioned do keep heads up and airways clear.

Oops posted too soon, sorry!

... I am pretty sure they are only for 5lb +
I recall having to wait a bit to use mine.

I would 100% recommend getting help wearing it right. I wasn't in a good mental state to go to a sling meet so I had a sling consultant come out to my house to help me put it on/put him in and take him out confidently. I paid £25 for an hour's session.
People tend to wear them with babies too low and the sling too loose - it should be tight as a tight t shirt, with babies head right under your chin. Always check your babies chin is away from their chest, through as DS got older he used to do an annoying face plant right into my chest and we couldn't turn his head. He was bigger by then with good head control so wasn't too worried.

Baby's not babies, gah! Sorry, sleepless night Smile

DebH1975 · 22/06/2014 21:19

Thanks .... Yep I checked and its 5lb + so I will need to wait a week or so before I use it. I may go along to my local sling library to make sure I've got it on correctly etc

I struggled with the Closer sling because although I had used it before with DC1, DC2 was so much smaller and I struggled to position her so she wasn't slumping even even she was over the 5lb Mark. I switched to the Ergo and with an extra rolled up hand towel in the baby support it fitted perfectly and she was supported enough so I could chase after and bend down to my then 1yr old.

I used a Caboo from 5lbs too and I loved it so much that I bought other, more supportive carriers as my baby got bigger and I'm still wearing him at 10months. There are loads of really helpful people on various Facebook groups like 'Slings and Things FSOT' which I'd recommend joining.
