Silly weaning question

It is my second time weaning a prem so I should be able to answer my own question!
Under six months can you freeze batch cooks? She is 22 weeks now and has (so far) loved it. I have sterilsed hee bowl and spoon before each feed, but I cannot remember if you do the containers?

Think it depends in how cold your freezer is as to life of frozen food. I rinsed all containers in boiling water. But TBH are you going to sterilise the pot/ chopping board /knife/ mixing spoon that you're cooking with?! Babies need to start being introduced to a small ant of bacteria but how much is up to you!!!!

Witnessing her licking her big brothers worn sock yesterday the issue of sterising containers may be pointless....

Hey Plenty. How are you? We have just started weaning at 21 Wks. It's lots of fun x

plentyofsoap · 16/03/2014 17:00

All is well here thanks Smile How are you?
I had forgotten how messy it was! She has gone onto two meals a day quite fast and enjoyed some avocado today. Mixing food with her milk seems to help.

Are these corrected ages? My preemie is now 25 weeks (15 corrected) and I have no idea about weaning.

Actual. Dd (and ds) both born at 33 weeks. You can wean prems early as their iron levels can fall due to not being in the womb long enough to get all the nutrients. It does not matter if you wean at six months actual though. Both mine showed all the signs so gave it a go.
Bliss charity have an excellent leaflet on weaning prems which they will send you for free.

Actual. 5 months today and born at 29 Wks so nearly 21 corrected. Again like Plenty just seems ready. Bliss guidelines suggest from 5 months but our neonatal outreach nurse said to start from 20 Wks if we wanted.
Hey Plenty. Yep, things are good. DS just moving into a cot bed so a little unsettled at night again x

YouAreMyRain · 16/03/2014 23:45

Thanks, I've just looked at the bliss website too. My DS is fascinated with food and showing other signs too so it's good to know he's probably getting ready. I was going to wait until six months corrected but will probably start earlier.

plentyofsoap · 17/03/2014 12:20

It is worth a try and if he is not ready you can always stop and try later.
Fraggle- We will be moving dd into her own room soon too hope your ds settles soon. How have you settled in the new area?
