Shortened cervix with moderate funneling @28 weeks

My scan about a month ago showed my cervix had strengthened to 1.98cm with slight funneling.

Just been for another scan and it showed my cervix has shortened by half a cm to 1.43cm and with moderate funneling.. I could tell by looking at the scan that the funneling had worsened. I see ny consultant again tomorrow.

Has anybody else been through this or know anything about it?

Hi I had a cervical cerclage in my recent pregnancy due to insufficient cervix. A cerclage incase they haven't discussed it with you is a stitch in your cervix to keep it closed. If your consultant thinks this is an option for you then they will offer it you when you see them. If not they will most likely advice quite strict bed rest.

I'm sure my consultant told me once you'd made it to about 28weeks the risks of premature labour decrease as the baby is bigger and more likely to stay put. Good luck with your consultation

I had funnelling at 23 weeks whilst on holiday - I had some pretty intense drug therapy and was flown home. I had my baby at 35 weeks.

I had cervical shortening (down to 1.6cm) at 25 weeks. It was too late for a stitch as I had mild contractions but I was given steroids and was on bedrest. With pretty strict bed rest I managed to hold on until 37 weeks when my little boy arrived safely.

Great that you've got a stitch and made it to 28 weeks already - really positive!

Sending you and your bump lots of luck x

Hi only just seen this. During my second pregnancy I had slight bleeding at 26 weeks. Due to previous prem birth at 33 they did a scan and I had funnelling and length was 1.6. Not good. Was placed on bedrest and had progestrone tablets internally twice a day. This actually worked and cervix lengthened slightly but obviously funnelling did not change.
I got to 33 weeks and all is well. I had the steriod injections too. Hope you are doing ok, it was a scary and worrying time.

Just to add that with funnelling you can go into labour very fast. My midwife kept going on about it, but she was right and I was 5 cm and in active labour within a very short space of time. Any signs just go straight there.

Having my last kit of steroids at 7.30. My consultant said that the funneling was inky slight.. But he didn't even see the funneling first hand? A month ago it was only 'slight' and my scanner now said it's 'moderate' as stated in my notes. The first time I barely saw the funnel but in my scan last week I saw it was alot wider, but haven't been given answers. What does it means if my funnel is wider?

Also are they meant to measure the funnel? Sorry just a little confused!

It is good that you are having the steriods, it makes a huge difference if baby comes early.
My consultant scanned me himself and pressed on my belly to measure it, so yes it should be measured. It could mean that as baby gets bigger it puts more pressure on your cervix. I understand that funnelling means dilated from the inside. I had alot of time to google unfortunately. Are you resting?

Hi I know it’s been a while for this thread but cannot find nothing else. May I ask if your child is ok as you had steroids? And learning difficulties? X
