Steriod Injections at 24 week's

I forget Mumsnet has a special thread for Premmies.

This may be long and I apologise. I lost my son at 23 week's in April 2012. I'm now pregnant again with a little girl and it isn't going as well as it could she's still in there so can't complain.

But I had a cervical sstitch placed at 17-18 week's because my cervix went from 2.5cm to 1.2cm within a couple if day's. My cervix is holding up but not really improving. It's started to funnel and there is fluid in my canal which should be ok unless I leak. I'm at a very hhigh risk of early Labour especially with my past.

I had my first lot of steroids at 8this morning and since then I've had a really uncomfortable dull backache which has been constant. Its also travelled around my hips and a few sharp pains in my lower stomach, I was just wondering if anybody had this with there are steroids? I have my other injection shot around 8 tonight.

Any advice would be appreciated

Sending a hand to hold and lots of positive thoughts. You must be so worried. I only managed one injection prior to our DS arriving 3 hours later. I can't recall any sensations. I'm sure someone will soon come along to offer information. Good luck xxx

I only had one dose of steroids before I went into labour as they only managed to stop my contractions for 12 hours. I had a 24+6 weeker who had a very very tough ride but is now 19 months actual and (despite having some additional breathing support till he's a bit bigger) is doing brilliantly. I know a couple of other late 24-25 weekers and getting both sets of steroids in helps them so much. Also every hour counts at this gestation so every hour your little one is still in there is brilliant. Good luck and will be thinking of you x

Aw, so glad you had a positive outcome. Got a hot water bottle now, it's eased the pain but only a little.. Keep getting some stomach pain. But not sure what pain it is so just seeing if it eases . Started to feel faint and headachy, no rest hey, haha x

Oh dear, make sure you get lots of advice when you have your next shot later. I leaked fluid and my waters went before i went into labour. I'm having a possible stitch when/if i get pregnant again. Stay strong. X

My Midwife is useless (not wanting to sound harsh) I had lowish blood pressure this morning 80/40.. Really not feeling myself, but they all make it out I'm playing tricks on my self.

I have stretching pain, but I'm nit to sure what this pain is as its constant and dull. My waters didn't go alone with my first. I was 10cm dilated with minimal pain until my waters got burst. So nit sure what to expect. All I know.is that my waters is pushing into my cervix which is resulting in the funneling and obviously if it gets worse its not good but don't get scanned again til end of Feb so its the waiting game.

It's all just a little nerve wracking

Had steroids as my waters broke. In hindsight the tummy pains I was having (we were on holiday abroad so I thought it was the food!) was probably labour. Only got one dose in before he arrived x

Oh God, I guess one shot is better than no shots though! I'm jjust glad I've made it to have steroids!

If you are that worried, just by pass the MW and go direct to A&E. Do what you think is right. Next time i would not hesitate if i thought there was an issue. I would be off to the emergency department. X

If you're not feeling yourself go to maternity triage. You are understandably worried and they can hook you up to the monitor to see if you are contracting. Better that than your waters going at home or anything like that. I went in loads of time with threatened labour with my second, they were always nice to me.

BTW I had steroids both times, once at 33 weeks 24 hours before he was born - both at once, can't remember it hurting but as I had just been told I was in prem labour and was being stabbed with all sorts it was all a bit of a blur. Second time round at 27 weeks, 24 hours apart hurt like hell in my bum for about half an hour afterwards. I managed to hold on till 38 weeks.

Everytime I go to triage they just check my stitch and send me home :-/. My bums been achy all weekend because I've slept on my mum's floor this weekend.

Had both steroid injections-they hurt like hell and i'm a type 1 diabetic so used to injections. Don't remember any other pain though, sorry.

29 weeker-now 10 months actual and doing well despite being a titch.

Good luck, young and I would ring triage (on green notes) and I would bet money they'll ask you to go in for monitoring x

I had steroid injections with my twins, I don't remember any pain afterwards.

Hope you are ok? I had the injections at 26 weeks as I also had funnelling and went down to 1.6 on the cervix scan. I went on bedrest and was put on progestrone tablets which are placed near your cervix twice a day. They worked and my cervix length improved and I got to 33 weeks. They are a trial drug but they will be prescribed by a consultant. Push for it. It is a scary place to be, but stay positive.

Thank you for all the replies, my midwife ended up referring me to traige.. she said hopefully they will keepin until Thursday(when im 24weeks) sothen I'm actually viable. She said i could have a water infection or maybe mild contractions. Traige was useless, they checked my cervix and sent me home saying it doesn't look like labour and that I'm 'constipated' even though my bowels are fine. I'm still achy today, had mild stomach craps but back pain has eased (still there but mild). Started burning up now, but they don't want to hear from me until tomorrow.. not going tobother because they make me feel like a waste of space.

Atleast baby is still in and cervix is closed from the outaide.. so cant complain really x

Rest/Rest/Rest! Get in bed and rest. Your services/support sound dreadful, such a shame as my experience was brilliant. If you don't feel right, go back. Sending good luck wishes. Keep posting x

Sorry to kkeep bothering.. But do you not what this might be.

Obviously yesterday I had back pain and sstomach pain which has settled a little. I also had headaches and dizziness. Today my cheeks have turned bright red and won't stop burning or stinging. My partner and brother say I really don't look well.. Hate feeling like this.

Can steroids make you feel like this? My leaflet said it can inot cause sideffects such as mentalhealth problems but only if taken regularly.
