Babies born 35/36 weeks

How much did they weigh, we're they kept in a unit? If so for how long? I'm 36 weeks tomorrow and my midwife thinks the baby may make an appearance this week, been having lots of signs of early labour and I'm just a bit worries as to what will happenif I had him now

I was born at 36 weeks, as was my sister and we weren't in scbu at all. In fact my sister was born at home! We were both around 6lbs 10. My dd2 was 6lbs 9 at 37 weeks and also fine.

36 weekers rarely need special care as long as they're feeding ok, you may be advised to wake him/her every 2 hours to feed and they may check blood sugars and they will certainly just check the baby is breathing ok with regular obs. It will also be essential to make sure he or she stays warm.

Ds2 was born at 35+6 two weeks ago, stayed with me the whole time, and we were discharged 3 days later, he did have to have some extra monitoring and the suck reflex isn't always as developed. Ds1 was born at 35+0 and had more problems, however, he stopped moving so was in trouble before he was born whereas ds2 was quite happy but evicted anyway!! Have you had steroids? I did with ds2, don't know what difference they made but would want them again if it looked like baby would be early. Good luck

My 1st was born at the tail end of 34 weeks - he was still 6lbs, my second was born at the tail end of 36 weeks - he was also 6lbs. My first had a small wobble with his sugar levels and almost ended up in NICU but didn't. My second had no issues at all. Both perfectly healthy.

I was told by different Ob's each time that now a days anything past 34 weeks is usually totally fine. There was a chance my 2nd might have appeared before 34 weeks so I got some shots to mature his lungs but that was it. Nobody was very concerned at all TBH.

Remember 37 is term so your very close to the finish line at any rate - I wouldn't worry too much (if you can help it )

Ds1 6"9 and ds2 7"13 they were big babies though!!!

33 weeks. 3lbs 15ozs. 3 weeks in SCBU. Totally fine now.

Make sure you get a steroid jab if you haven't had one yet. Will help develop LO's lungs.

34+5 here. DS was 5lb 1oz and stayed on the ward with me. No issues but he is 18 months now and has been slightly behind on all milestones (but still within the 'normal' range).

My dsis had her baby today at 35 weeks, she weighed 6lb2.

My twins were born at 34 weeks and weighed 5lb4 & 5lb7, spent 2 weeks in SCBU.

DS2 was born at 35+0 7 months ago. He was never seperated from me or in SCBU, we got out 3 days after he was born and he was BF from day 3. They did blood sugars for a while before we got out of the hospital but that was all. He was 4lbs 8oz which isn't bad because his 38+2 older brother was 6lb 1oz.

my waters went at 34+3 and I had been told he was engaged and ready to go at about 32 weeks so don't worry too much, babies can stay put for ages even if it looks like they are ready to go!

DS4 was born at 35+3. He weighed 7lb 2oz and spent 4 weeks in the neonatal unit, 3 days in NICU and the rest in SCBU. A nurse told me at the time that 35 weeks is an unpredictable age. Some babies need a lot of help and others none. I was also told that there is a big difference between a baby born at 35 weeks and a baby born at 36 weeks.

My daughter was born at 35+2, 7lb 4oz - Drs were all very calm when I came into hospital - one used the phrase "doable" which makes me smile when I look back. I was in the maternity ward for 5 days, a few problems getting feeding established while her sucking reflex developed and treating jaundice which took a little while to clear but no problems other than that. She's 11 weeks now (6 weeks adjusted) but developmentally somewhere between 6 and 11!

35+4, born by EMCS due to pre-eclampsia although they were planning on inducing me at 36wks due to poor growth and low fluid. He was 4lb3oz and spent 9 days in SCBU, he needed tube feeding and was treated for jaundice for 2 days but other than that he was fine. He is now nearly 6 weeks old and is growing so fast, he's put on a lb a week for the last 2 weeks!

DS was born at 35 weeks and was just under 5lb

He had a week in SCBU to get his jaundice sorted (more of an issue with boys than girls) and to have IV antibiotics (my waters went early and my labour was too quick for me to have them during delivery). Agree with having a steroid jab for lung development.

As for later on:

• he "caught up" developmentally by 12 months, though it can take up to 2 years. Basically he had five weeks of treading water as a new born, then was like a new born and began to develop in things like turning head to noise after that point.

• as a small child he had a weak chest, in that if he got a cold it would tend to turn into a chest infection. We got good at catching it early and not waiting to see if he would get better on his own before going to the doctors

• by about six he had grown out of the chest issues

• at eight he is the tallest in the class and one of the brightest. You would never know he started out as a tiny wee thing

DD - 36 weeks exactly - 7 lbs 6 oz (whopper, can you imagine if I had gone 2 weeks over!!!! makes my eyes water!), v slight jaundice so kept by the window, all good.

DS - 35 weeks exactly, waters went 3 days earlier, also 7lbs 6oz, severe janudice, scbu 2 weeks, fed by tube and triple photo therapy, despite his large weight for dates he is a squirt now, 120cm aged 7.5 yrs. Also has ADHD which some put down to prematurity and such severe jaundice.

conclusion: girls are the stronger sex.

GOOD luck OP, 36 weeks plus is good, so much better than 33/34 weeks. Try to relax.
