my little girl didn't need special care and we were sent home the same as any other mum..just wondering if i should be aware of anything or just treat her like a full term bubba?

I think being born before 37 weeks is classed as premature so yes she was premature. Sounds like she was born a good weight and obviously was healthy enough to go home like normal. She may lag a couple of weeks development wise e.g. smiling, etc so just allow for that.

37 weeks is classed as full term so you were only a day off!

Technically prem as 'full term' is considered to be 37 weeks +. It's possible she may have a slightly less developed suck reflex or need feeding a bit more frequently than a baby who'd been cooked a bit longer.
But she may not-especially as she was so close to term.

My dd was like that, similar term and weight. She was just like a term baby and ok. Make sure your baby feeds, wees and poos frequently.

I thought 35-36+6 was classed as 'early' before that premature, after that full term.

I would be troubled by the use of the word prem to describe her tbh. First up scans are only accurate to about three days or so, so dc could be term. Second up its a label - it might be useful mentioning to hcps if dc ever had issurs due to early arrival (although by 35 weeks odds are the same as a term baby) but when you use the label people imagine vents, cerebral palsy, holes in the heart, months in hospital, eye probs, brain bleeds, digestive necrosis, life threatening infections and potentially lifelong damage to attention span and personality. I dont think that baggage is useful or accurate to yr dd and unless she has any issues related to her early arrival longterm I dont its helpful to her. It took my dd five months to reach your dd's birth weight for example and while she was classed as extremely premature what shes had to endure is nothing compared o babies born jst two weeks earlier at 25 weeks.

DS was born at 36+1 and was 7lb 9oz and was classed as prem, even though we were discharged after 24 hours and he was perfectly fine.

I wouldn't worry about it too much and just enjoy your early arrival!

ds1 was 6lb 2 at 35 weeks, and classed as prem, and we stayed in a week to get breastfeeding established as he didnt have much of a sucking reflex and had to be tube fed for a while.

Its not so much to do with the weight, as to whether baby can feed etc.

Btw DS was totally fine and seemed to do everything at normal times. I'm pg again so have seen consultant who said he was obviously fully cooked at that point and not to worry about the next one.
