Contracting and positive ffn test at 27 weeks

I don't really know what else to say. I'm on atosiban and obviously steroids. I keep having pockets of contractions then nothing so we're just waiting. Docs seem to think baby will be here by 32 weeks at the latest but there's no way of knowing.

Is it wrong that I feel a bit bored and want my own bed?

I had this. I started contractions at 27 weeks, had the positive ffn and was given steroids etc and told the baby could arrive at any time. My DS1 was born at 33 weeks so they were extra cautious.

I continued to have contractions almost every couple of days of varying intensity and was back in hospital again at 29, 32, 34 and 36 weeks. I begged my consultant to induce me at 38 weeks as I had had enough by then. I really don't blame you for wanting to be at home.

Make sure you get a tour of SCBU, talk to as many people as possible about what having a premmie involves, and take each day as it comes. It's boring but every day you can keep the baby in is a day your baby isn't in hospital.

It is boring, mind numbing and crap! But it's all for baby and they deserve every ounce you can pile on him/her before they are born xx

Thanks for the responses. We have 3 DC already and this is my third preterm labour so I know what a neonatal unit is like to a point. This is my worst preterm labour though. Pains are waking me up at the mo and I feel sick I guess I just don't want this to be happening...

Incidentally, I managed an extra four (painful) weeks with DS so I know it can happen! But I definitely rather that idea than a 27 weeker if poss.

Neonatologist is talking about defered cord clamping and caring for baby alongside me to try and prevent IVH and anaemia...

Baby is still inside! Saturday morning, I had inreasingly painful contractions that were getting closer together and everyone thought I was about to deliver. Then they stopped! I now have a very 'irritable uterus'. I'm exhausted from the on-off contractions that I've had for five days now. But, baby is happy and staying put at the mo. Even if I can get to Thursday and be 28 weeks before delivering, that would be good. I reckon I've got a few more weeks before baby puts in an appearance...

Long may it continue. Dd was 27+3 and born too fast for the steroids to work and the difference between her and a 29 weeker was massive. Better some boredom and stress for you now if it reduces the nicu white knuckle ride. Dd still sees her paed every three months or so and shes 20 months. Most 29 weekers are signed off from consultant care by one. Each grim stressful hour you can hold on now is worth weeks and months of worry later. Wishing u and dc the best of luck x

Thank-you. Steroids have been in long enough to work. They were going to send me home today but my uterus is too irritable and tightening too often for that to be safe. The doctors don't know what to do with me! Pretty much everything is setting off more tightenings. I don't mind the boredom really and would never trade that for an early baby. The not knowing whether everything is going to be OK or not is harder to take. And on-off contractions for five days is taking it's toll a bit...
