Any experiences of brain bleeds in premature babies? Am very worried for my new nephew

My beautiful new nephew (born at 30 weeks after pprom) had a brain bleed shortly after birth. It started at a grade 2 & 3 so not too worrying, but a more recent scan has revealed it is now grade 2 one side & grade 3 the other. I know grade 3 bleeds are cause for concern & am going out of my mind with worry for my nephew. Anyone had experience of this?

That is amazing, jjkm. It is such a worry, isn't it? Did you have twins?

Ahh, bet they were tiny.Smile

My sister has been told the bleed has gone from a 1 & 2 to a 2 & 3, but that this sometimes happens as it starts dispersing. He has no swelling to his head atm, and doctor is hopeful that won't happen. Poor little thing also has chronic lung disease so is still on full oxygen & they have been told to prepare for him to come home on it when the time comes.

I have nothing to add of help as my 28 weeker didn't have any bleeds that I'm aware of but I just wanted to say I hope your nephew will be fine - he s lucky to have such a loving auntie!

Ahh, thank you. I saw him on Friday & he is gorgeous!Smile He is still on cpap & needed another blood transfusion yesterday but is gaining weight well. He was 4lb yesterday! He weighed 2lb 15oz at birth. I so hope he will be ok.

Glad you got to see him Pink , in our hospital they wouldn't let aunties/ uncles in. It drove all our family mad waiting for him to be discharged (8 weeks).

My DS was 2lb 12oz at birth and has done really very well so I have high hopes for your nephew Smile

I posted on your other thread about brain bleeds and I was wondering how your DNephew was getting on. It seems from the other thread that his lung disease is the cause for concern now not the brain bleeds? Have the doctors done more scans?
