Do IUGR babies catch up?

DS2 born Jan 4 at 35+3 weighing 3lbs 5ozs due to IUGR. Had first check at hospital today and now 5lbs 10ozs and dr very pleased with him.

For some reason I'm deflated end upset. Had hoped for more weight - only six oz in nine days and i'd just fed him.

Also now really worryimg that he will always be tiny. is improvement on worrying if he will survive, I know, but can anyone reassure or prepare me on what to expect?

Our DS was born 2lb exactly at 29 weeks. Came out on the 0.4th centile for height (I forget the weight centile - it was low). He's now 18 months corrected and between 95th and 99th centile for weight and between 50th and 75th for height. It's all relative.

My first prem baby was at 33 weeks and was 3lbs. He's 9 now and although physically perfect he is very slight. Slimmest (by far) in his class and pretty much the shortest. He still is under 4 stone. My second was at 26 weeks and she weighed 995grams. She's 18 months now and still of the scale but is heavier than her brother was at the same age. She's in 9 month clothes but she's getting their. They are slow gainers!

DD was IUGR and oligohydraminous, born 33w 3lb 5 oz, 18 days in nicu/hdu/scbu. She is now massive! She turned 2 a few weeks ago and is 14kg. She was small for the first year and stayed on nutriprem ready made for about 8 months, had reflux constipation the works.

She is now (bar an attitude and frequent constipation) a strapping toddler, in contrast her cousin born at term who is now smaller than her, I genuinely think that it is child specific, if your pead is happy then take it as a win.

My dd was iugr too. Elective c section at 35w 3 days and she was 4 lbs 2 oz.
She caught up rapidly though (she fed extremely well and drank a lot of milk).
Now a 3 and a 1/2 year old. She is taller and bigger (she's not overweight but in no way slight) than most girls her age. She's in 4/5 year old clothes and is ahead in speech etc.

My son was IUGR, born 5lbs 3oz at 38+1 (so not prem but early term). He was 0.4 centile apart from his femur length. He's now 75th centile! (He's 14 weeks and around 15lbs).

My ds is 15 months and was born at 34 weeks 4 lbs 2 oz. he’s barely 16 lbs 10 oz and very small. He doesn’t drink more than 2-4 oz of high calorie milk at a time and delayed on milestones. He is finally scooting with the help of OT/PT after just 2 weeks. It’s so hard dealing with all the specialists and other babies being ahead of him, but just focusing on giving him all the help he can get to eventually catch up. He’s still way off the charts

He will catch up so don't worry. His weight gain was good.

My daughter was IUGR.

She's now 5 and is very slight and dainty. Dwarfed baby other Kids her age.

She weighs 14 kilos...my friend has an 18 month old that's 12!

She is very happy and healthy so I try not to worry about it. We can't all be giants Smile
