Hi ladies.
My DD was born @34wks weighing 4lb 14oz. She is now 12wks actual age ( 6wks re-cal)
I have asked HV but she wont tell me.. DD is drinking 80-100ml nutriprm every feed and has since birth. (apart from growth-spurt wks when was having 120ml EVEY 2-3hrs) The past 2wks she is waking EVERY 1-2hrs for feeds day and night! Am shatted lol..
My question.. Obviously her milk isnt enough for her as she is always hungry.. What milk does she go on next?? I tried to ask HV but only get we'll come to that when she drinking 180+ of milk every feed! but she only has a teeny tum abviosly cant drink that much.. She has tears if we try make her last out 3hrs (which is what HV suggested)
Shall i go onto cow n gate for hungrier babies? I gave her 1 bottle and she slept peacefully for 4hrs! She also has reflux which dont help but on gaviscon 6x a day.. What to do what to do!!!

Try ringing the Cow & Gate helpline, I think the number is on the box - a friend found them really helpful.

My DD (12 weeks prem) was on 4 hourly feeds when she came home from SCBU, and went on to normal Cow & Gate formula when she was about 6 months actual age I think - it was when she hit the 50th centile for her corrected age. We did some bottles of normal and some Nutriprem for a bit as a transition, but she wasn't really bothered what she drank (gets that from me?!). Did try the hungry baby formula for her last feed of the day, but didn't seem to make a difference, so didn't bother after the first box was empty.

HV sounds less than helpful - is there another one you can speak to?

hi there.. Thanks for replying. Having a prem baby id definately different than a full term baby.
We tried her on aptimel from breast few wks ago and she was just more hungry so continued with the nutriprem.
Then now because she crying ,proper tears. because she is hungry she obviously needs more.
We tried her on cow n gate2 yest and she slept peacefully for 3 hours everytime she has one. We are alternating with nutriprem then next bottle cow n gate but when having nutriprem she still cries after 1 hr! prooven yest lol...
At HV to get her weighed tomorrow so hoping to get better advice at the center.
Awwww how is your LO now?
Jorgia dont bother what she drinks either but the cow and gate formula definately helping her bowels lol
Jorgia is 12wks now and last weighed 10lb 2 but think she pushing 11lb now lol...
on pre-term chart she is above the 75th percentile.. on main chart she is following the 9th percentile nicely..
Thankyou for replying. No one knows much about nutriprem and no1 i know have pre-term babiess so difficult.
Ive had rubbish midwives and hv since day 1 of having her/and in pregnancy

DS2 was on nutriprem2 until 14 months and then switched to cows milk, tbh I always thought it must eb more filling than the standard off the shelf stuff??

anonandlikeit · 11/09/2010 15:24

Oh forget my last useless post, just remembered ds2's was thickened for reflux so I guess that filled him up.

SmilerJane · 11/09/2010 17:21

thanks for replying.. i moved her to cow n gate 2 a few days ago and she is much happier/more smiley.. told HV and they said she obviously found it hard to digest as thick. my lil one has reflux too but on gaviscon 6x a day.
actually sleeps 1-7ish now Grin

Both my twins, born at 28 weeks and were on NP2 till a year corrected. It is way more filling than normal milk with loads more calories in it. Even at 6 months old and with 4 hourly feeding they rarely drank over 200mls in one go which really concerned me. (Their older sister was term, on normal formula and would easily down 9 oz bottles without coming up for air by that stage!) Once they were on normal formula milk they could drink much more volume. I suspect your HV is being unrealistic there so glad you have changed it. Think you did the right thing xx

Hi i was wondering this to! I had my twins at 28 weeks and they are now 9 months (6 months corrected) so my nutriprem 2 prescription is being stopped...ive bought the cow and gate follow on milk (number 3, purple) but havent tried it yet! Both my boys have about 120-150ml every 4-5 hours but they are happy and putting on weight so i presume thats okay? look forward to hearing how you get on! xx
