I recently shared a post about my pregnancy options and was so grateful for advice received. Upon lots and LOTS of reflection and advice and support here and with friends I have decided to end my pregnancy.

I have had a call with BPAS who have been amazing, and chose to have treatment via at home tablets which have arrived, however on reflection I think I would much prefer and would find it less traumatic to go in for the surgical option. Has anyone been through this and changed their mind re options? Is this possible to change “preferred procedure”?

I have had the surgical option twice. So once with general anestetic - you don’t feel anything at all. And today I’ve had one with local with bpas which actually was ok. It was a little bit uncomfortable but put pain on 3/10 scale but this can vary depending on how far along you are and subjective pain thresholds. If I had the choice for general I would have picked it but wit the local it was also fine. I didn’t like medical and never liked the thought of you being alone with no medical supervision I think it depends on the person. I only went for local as I had no one to take me home today , the lead up to it was certainly the worst. It depends which bpas centre you choose regarding the options of general , conscious sedation or local anestetic so if that matters to you I would be asking those questions x

How many weeks are you? The medical pills are painful for aboit 12 hours while you are actively passing POC. You do bleed for about 10 days afterwards like day 2 or 3 or your period.

I had 2 abortions early at 5 and 6 weeks and although painful I'm.glad I didn't do a D and C

Just to add I also went for the surgical option as there’s is a lot less blood and it was over in 5 mins , I’ve heard lots of positive stories about the medical pill as well but it has always been a last result for me as I have health anxiety and don’t like how uncertain it is I.e how long it takes to pass, the amount of blood and amount of pain you get. Surgical is 100% the right choice for me. With medical your likely be abit to get that done sooner though as you can go home with the pills. I think it’s a very personal decision let me know if you need a hand hold through any of this because I know how awful this can be. X

@Fi16thank you so much, I am 9 weeks tomorrow by the way. I have a phobia of being sick and swallowing tablets too, so my anxiety is high about doing it at home, I think I thought I could do it at home because it’s quick etc, and that the tablets wouldn’t be too bad, now I think being in a space with professionals would be less traumatic for me, I worry that my anxiety will get too intense that I’ll talk myself out of it, not because I don’t think it’s the right decision but because of my fears (which I know sounds so silly probably)

@Fi16also thank you so much for being so kind, I’m really anxious at the moment, but I just want to move forward with my life, I am losing sleep and just exhausted by the weight of this 🤍

@Yogisunflower91 that’s ok I’ve been in turmoil for weeks with mine as I was too early to have any treatment as I caught my pregnancy really early. Just have a word with bpas about the surgical and see what they say :) let me know how you get on x

Yogisunflower91 · 19/03/2026 15:05

@Fi16i hope you’re keeping well. Thank you, I have spoken to BPAS today and I have booked a call to have the surgery consultation. They were so helpful and kind as always x

Great when are you booked in for ? Just a couple of tips (wish I wasn’t experienced in this area but here I am) if there is no slots the week you want ask to be put on the waiting list. I had to be quite pushy but mine was urgent ish because I have international travel on 39th March and really needed to have it done by then and I was mentally in a bad place with that. I’m travelling somewhere abortion is illegal and I could not move this family trip so I really had to be hot on their case. If they haven’t got anywhere the closest to you they also have clinics around the country. You can ask them to search the lists for next available if you are willing to travel. Only thing is if you are going to have any type of sedation they they want someone to take and bring you back which is understandable , I didn’t so only had the local x

I’m so glad it’s over with for you. My recovery has been very good. Couple of cranky days afterwards and bleeding stopped after about 10 days but there was no heavy bleeding really.my boobs took a bit longer to disappear. I was anxious as was going on holiday and asked if they would do a follow up scan and they did that for me x
