Phoning for an abortion tomorrow - any advice?

Never had one before. I’m just over 4 weeks pregnant. I’ve done my research and will be looking for an at home medical abortion.

I’m nervous but I know it’s the right thing to do.

would anyone care to share their own experiences?

I had one at 5 weeks pregnant, I was 6 months post-partum.

I had to have a scan to make sure it wasn’t an ectopic pregnancy, that was difficult, but the sonographer was very professional & obviously knew the reason I was there, they sent me the medication via the post, it was very mild bleeding for 12 hours followed by mild/insignificant cramps for 24 hours.

We weren’t ready for a second child (we have since gone on to have another baby)

Emotionally I felt a little numb for a few weeks, struggled with humour & happiness, I would say I thought about it daily for a few months… but these feeling/thoughts didn’t last longer than 2 months.

This was 4 years ago & unless the topic of termination comes up in person it never crosses my mind.

I do recall on the initial phonecall they offered counselling.

Thankyou for replying. I hope I don’t need to have a scan. Why did they do that? I’m in Scotland so they don’t do “Pills by Post” here, so I’m hoping they can give me an appointment quickly to start this.

I am already a mum, too. My DC is 8.

A scan is typically required before a termination to confirm the gestation (number of weeks pregnant) and to make sure the pregnancy is in the uterus I.e not in the fallopian tube (ectopic pregnancy)

The medication used in terminations is Mifepristone whereas to end an ectopic it’s usually methotrexate.

I don’t think I’d be comfortable having a termination without a scan.

We have a 4 (nearly 5 year old) and a 1 year old.
