Termination or not

my previous post got deleted (I didn’t get a chance to read most of the responses).

I’ll give more details as that seemed to annoy a lot of people.

I had my 12 week scan last week and have since found out baby is “high risk” for having Down syndrome.

I have been invited for further testing.

I am obviously gutted by the news (no one hopes and prays for a child with additional needs), but this is a much wanted pregnancy.

I don’t know what to do.

can you pay for the private NIPT test? I’m not sure if NHS offer it but I had it with my daughter. You can get it from 10 weeks and it’s a non invasive blood test but I believe more accurate in identifying potential issues x

Depending on how high risk you may be offered a NIPT test through the NHS. Otherwise, perhaps you’d consider paying for one? I was high risk but not considered high enough for NHS testing and did the NIPT test privately to give myself peace of mind.

I wouldn’t terminate from the NHS result. I came back as “high” risk but it was 1 in 145 (cut off is 1 in 150 for high risk).
to put it in perspective that’s a 99.3% chance they do NOT have the condition!

go for the extra tests.
the nipt has no miscarriage risk and gives you a result with accuracy of 99.98%
