I hope I could post this here I am only new and was not really sure how to use it.

My lmp was on the 17th Feb
Medical abortion was on the 18th march I was only four weeks gone. I had little to no cramping bleeding like a period small amounts of clots. Bleeding stopped after a week . I did resume intercourse when the bleeding stopped. I took a test on the the 10th April and it was a strong positive. I took another one today, the digital ones and it said 3+ so I am so confused as to what is happening my body. Since my abortion my boobs had been sore and tender throughout but just thought I was going straight into pms symptoms for my upcoming period as breast tenderness would be common for me. I have had unprotected sex but he did pull out so I am unsure weather it is a new pregnancy or a continued one from my previous. I have heard about retained tissue but I haven't had any symptoms to suggest this is the case. Is this normal? Could I have residue tissue left? Could it be a new pregnancy? And is it normal for a pregnancy test to show up 3+ weeks pregnant 5 weeks post abortion. What's my next steps

Right well, this is all a bit messy. I had a medical abortion and was still testing positive 3 weeks after. I knew I wasn’t pregnant as without doubt I passed the pregnancy, felt it, saw it etc etc. It was just my hormones. I also ovulated very soon after the termination, about 8 days later. I didn’t have sex for months after though. In theory, had I had sex again, I could have got pregnant again, little more then 1 week after terminating, My point being….You could well be pregnant again. EspecIally as the test you took is showing 3+weeks, it is detecting high levels of the pregnancy hormone.

In your situation, I would be contacting my abortion provider, asap, and explaining your situation, they will likely scan you, this will determine whether you are pregnant, or have retained tissue from previous pregnancy which is causing the pregnancy test to show positive. If you are pregnant, they will be able to determine how far gone you are and whether it was the previous pregnancy which held, regardless of termination, or a new pregnancy.

Contact them tomorrow. Good luck Xx

Hi , thanks for replying
I did ring the nurse today she said that my previous pregnancy could have failed as I haven't tested negative in the last few weeks and that my breast tenderness went away.
I am booked in for a scan tommorow in the early pregnancy unit the nurse whom I was speaking to in the pregnancy unit says it may be a new pregnancy rather then the old but I will find out tommorow. The stress over the last few weeks is starting to take it toll and thank god I will be getting it sorted. I will keep you updated.

Good luck. Sounds very stressful. Tomorrow will bring some clarity and then you can take it from there.

Hi I thought I would update you.
Got my scan this morning and it turned out that the pregnancy never ended. I am 9 weeks 3 days today. So that explains all my strong positive tests and continued sore breast tenderness. I am booked in now for a admission at my local hospital to retake the medication again next week and if this don't work I will have surgery. But I am glad I got some kind of answers. Thank you very much for replying. And I shall update when I have everything done. X the nurse explained this does happen I reckon it failed because I took them at 3-4 weeks pregnant. Just my opinion.

Oh wow!!
At least you know now. All a bit of mind f**k I bet. I was 8 weeks when I took the medication at home, and feel lucky that all went to plan. I have read other stories on here from women whose first attempt didn’t work though.

Best of luck for next week. Positive thoughts x

@TidyTraybake how did you get on? Hope all went well and you are feeling ok. x

Hi yes doing ok thanks for texting. I was in hospital last Sunday to restart the misoprostol again. I was out there 13 hours but the pain only last 45 mins very manageable and I had passed everything. You read horror stories online about the bleeding pain ect but I had very little pain and very little bleeding. I know now my hormones are going back to normal my boobs are not sore at all so that's a good sign I will take now the test in two weeks but it should deffo be negative.
