Surgical abortion with BPAS

Hi all,

I have a surgical abortion next week and will do the procedure under general anaesthetic. Before the procedure I have been asked to take one tablet of Mifepristone to soften my cervix.

I am so petrified of taking this tablet alongside being scared generally. Has anyone had experience of taking this tablet and if so what were your side effects?

Mifepristone is hormone blocker and will block the pregnancy hormone progesterone. Some women feel a little nauseous, some have some spotting - but this is less common. Before your procedure it is important to take this medication as your cervix will soften, allowing access for the pregnancy to be removed. When is your appointment? Clinics/aftercare are there to offer support and will go through any of the information you were given again to make sure you understand everything.

Be gentle with yourself x

My procedure is on Monday at 10:00am and I have been told to take the Mifepristone tablet 24 hours before (Sunday at 10:00am). I spoke with aftercare and they said the same. I think it’s my anxiety getting the worse of me and being scared of other side effects like severe cramping or miscarrying before the procedure x

How did you find taking the tablet in the end?

I’ve got to take mine today ahead of surgery tomorrow and I’m very anxious about it.

@Easypeasymacncheesy i hope it all went ok with the procedure and taking the medication beforehand.
