Just began my abortion…feeling nervous/scared

Hi all,

Took the first pill an hour ago. I am an extremely phobic/sensitive person. Scared of pain, of seeing weird things…of blood etc I think I feel phantoms pains in my vagina… I am scared about the second set of pills…it says it is best to insert vaginally…I don’t think I can do that? I don’t think I can let my partner do it either…apparently you can take it by mouth but it has to stay in it for 30 minutes…I don’t want to mess it all up. Also, is it ok to shower in middle of an abortion? I know, so random!

don't be nervous! I found that I mostly wanted to be on the toilet anyway and then if I felt clots come out I just flushed straight away. It would be fine to shower during - I personally didn't really feel like it but I don't see why not.

Inserting vaginally was absolutely fine for me - just pushed them up as far as I could then lay on the bed for about an hour with a pad on. I found I didn't start bleeding for maybe 90 mins to 2 hours.

Sorry for the TMI question - would you say a whole finger length or half a finger?

I am booked for a surgical abortion and so scared. I have been asked to take a tablet of Mifepristone before the procedure to soften my cervix. Grateful if you can share your experience of the first pill for your medical abortion (which should be the same) and any side effects you experienced x

Push the misoprostol in as far as you can, so they don’t fall out. The tablets don’t have to reach a certain point as they are absorbed by the vessels you have inside your vagina. And showering is absolutely fine - do what ever makes you feel comfortable.

If you use them in your mouth, they can taste quite chalky! You also have a higher chance of getting stronger side effects (such as a temperature). It is important you leave them in your mouth (as shown in the booklet) for the full 30 mins x
