Bleeding after surgery for retained products

I had surgery to remove tissue left from a Medical abortion 6 weeks ago. I seem to have only bled a little on the day of surgery but since then nothing… is this normal? I was bleeding prior to that for 6 weeks on and off from the medical abortion.

Yes I would say this was normal. I had a similar experience, my periods took 5 months to return to normal. If in doubt or any concerns though speak to your GP.

@Alwayssomething14 Thank you, I have just read mixed things about having a period like bleed after a surgical removal. I know that periods can be lighter for a few cycles but was expecting some heavier bleeding straight after and it went after only a day. Although I was bleeding for weeks before hand so maybe there’s nothing left to bleed now. Just hoping my periods return in a few weeks so that I can feel normal again!

Yes I bled on and off like you at first, it persisted and that's when I found out it was because of retained tissue. After the surgical removal though it's as you say there's nothing really left in there to bleed. Unfortunately I've been through it twice. It was the same both times. I suffered quite bad with anxiety at the time and did check in with the hospital and GP when I had any concerns. So all I'd say if it doesn't feel right ask the professionals, they'd rather you ask and get checked out then sit at home worrying.

@Alwayssomething14 My anxiety has been terrible the whole time. Now I’m just desperate to get back to normal. I have realised what a mistake I made and I do want to try to convince next year so I want to know that that will be possible for me again.

Give yourself time to process what's happened, plenty of rest, healthy eating and just be kind to yourself. Your body will recover, seek out some talking therapy for your anxiety too 💐
