just wanted to get your opinion on the difference between NHS vs private maternity care / birth experiences in the UK. My partner and I are lucky to have private health insurance through our work and I have spoken to the insurance company, and we have maternity care and birth care included.
We live just outside of London and it seems that the London hospitals are the only ones that offer private maternity care, can’t see any others around where I live (bucks). But as we aren’t too far this isn’t too much of an issue.
this is my first pregnancy so all really new and not sure whether it’s worth going private? I know the standard of care should ultimately be the same but will I have more choices and flexibility going privately? Are there any risks? (Eg less equipment for complications) as I’ve heard some horror stories of private hospitals being under equipped. (Our most likely choice would be Queen Charlotte’s)
If you’ve done both, which was the better experience? Or which would you pick knowing what you know?
