Pregnant and perimenopausal

I've been with my husband for 10 years, and we were trying for a baby soon after we were married. After 7 years, I finally got pregnant but miscarried a week after finding out.

Because of how long it took to fall pregnant, I assumed it was unlikely to happen again. So we continued not to use contraception, and if it happens, it happens, but if not, I was fine with it. We both have a child from previous relationships.

4 months before I was pregnant, I was convinced I was perimenopausal, although I still had fairly regular periods.

I am now pregnant again - a year on from miscarriage. I am booked in for a termination as recent personal and financial circumstances, means it's the best thing for us all.

I'm not sad, but I am confused as I have an appointment next Friday to discuss starting HRT.

I'm worried now that they won't allow me to start. That they may see my fertility as a reason they don't think I'm perimenopausal.

I assumed during perimenopause that you would be less fertile, and yet despite hot flushes, vaginal itching and atrophy, insomnia, low mood etc. I seemed to have gotten pregnant twice!

Has anyone experienced similar, and how likely is it that my GP will refuse me HRT?

Thanks in advance

Hello Gin, I don't have an answer to your HRT question, but I was just wondering if you are 100% sure you want to terminate, as it sounds like you and your husband were really open to having a biological child together. You cited personal reasons so I understand if you are uncomfortable going into detail, you don't have to. I'm also so sorry for the miscarriage you suffered, that must have been intensely painful and you have all my sympathy for your loss. I went through menopause much quicker than I expected to, got my final period at age 47 but I don't know what the average age is. I hope you will be well in mind and body, and get some answers about the hormone replacement. Take care.
