Medical abortion

Hi all

so I recently found out I am pregnant with twins but have opted for a termination due to personal reasons and circumstances, which as difficult as it is to make this decision, I know it is the right one.

last night, I took my first pill for the medical abortion. I have now just inserted the 4 pills for the 2nd stage and I am truly terrified.

I am at home alone, and I really don’t know what to expect. I have read soo many horror stories and especially with me being alone I am really trying to stay calm about it but it’s not really working.

can anyone tell me about their experiences (good and bad) and as realistic please as what I should expect?

im really hoping it all goes smoothly tonight.

thanks in advance xx

I did a medical abortion 3 years at home during Covid and it really wasn’t that bad for me, like a strong period pain. They also sent me codeine to help with pain but I found I didn’t need it, I managed pain well with just ibuprofen and paracetamol. It was quite an early stage though, about 6 weeks.

Sending hugs! X

Ah that’s good to hear! I am 6 weeks and 3 days at the moment. Really hoping it’s over and done with quickly it’s horrible just lay here waiting for it, thinking of the worst is going to come! I have been given codeine which I’ve not taken yet but thinking I may take them soon to get into my system before the pain actually begins? Xx

How are you this morning? I had a MA a few weeks ago and also found it to be nowhere close to the horror stories I had read. As you inserted the pills last night, I wanted to see how you are feeling this morning? Hope you are doing ok. Take it easy today. I took the codeine before I inserted the last 2 pills. I found the pain intense but fortunately the pregnancy passed within 2 hours of the last step. Lots of love and positive thoughts for you this morning. X

morning, I am feeling okay this morning! I feel the same it has been nothing like the horror stories I’ve read at all! It’s been more of a harsher period pain. The worst of it has been the back pain really that was pretty strong but nothing I couldn’t handle it just kept me awake really as it was just uncomfortable. But I feel so much better than I thought I would and it really isn’t half as bad as I’d heard!

I didn’t think I was supposed to take the last two pills unless I didn’t start bleeding last night? Am I also supposed to take these? Xx

Glad you are doing ok. I had mine through MSI and was told to follow through with the whole process. A little booklet came in the box with the pills and codeine and pregnancy test etc. I did exactly what it said in that. I was just under 8 weeks and didn’t actually start bleeding until I had inserted the last 2 pills. All happened quite quickly after that.

I would go with whatever you have been told to do. Do you feel you have passed the pregnancy now? It was very obvious for me. Perhaps call the provider and double check with them. However, I’m pretty sure the last two pills are a definite part of the process for most people.

Yeah I might give them a call just to make sure! the instructions for mine said to take the last two if I don’t start bleeding within 3 hours.

ive managed to get a couple of hours sleeps this morning so feeling much better now :)

I have passed some clots etc and have been bleeding since last night but it’s not been extreme or really heavy but I do feel like I have passed the pregnancy!

I am going to give them a call just to make sure! X
