Has my medical abortion worked? No bleeding

Hello, looking for advice as I’m a bit worried my medical abortion was unsuccessful.

i found out at 4.5 weeks I was pregnant due to contraception not working. I called to terminate the pregnancy on Monday and I was booked in for the following Wednesday. That week on Saturday night I started passing small little clots, spotting and slight discharge but this was very minimal.

I told the nurse and still went ahead with the termination. I took the first stage of the medical abortion 10:50am on Wednesday and the second stage (4 vaginal tablets) 11:00 Thursday. Quite soon after I had a lot of cramps that would come and go. I’ve not had much bleeding. I’ve had a little bit of blood only when peeing, a couple of clots but not many and some brown discharge since and a bit of diarrhoea. I thought there would be a lot of bleeding than I have experienced or even just similar to a period but nothing more than when I wipe. My sanitary pads have all been quite clear too.

did my abortion work? Has anyone else experience a delay in bleeding or minimal bleeding? Not sure if I should be worried about this or an ectopic pregnancy or if I’d already had an early miscarriage?

please let me know if anyone has had a similar problem.

My experience was a lot more violent than this at around 6 weeks. There was a significant amount of blood and while it slowed down, it did continue for a few days after like a period. I would wait and see what the test says after the allotted time, and go from there.

Also, were you given 6 pills? Did you use the 2 extras? I was given two extras in case it didn't work with the first 4.

Yeah I took the 2 extra tablets but still minimal spotting and discharge :(

Ah okay, sorry to hear that OP. Don't worry though, you'll get this sorted one way or another! Wait and see what your results say and go from there

It will have worked in the sense that the pregnancy won't continue but you might need more help passing the product. You should have been given a number to call. They'll be able to help you.

Aww thank you, that’s a bit of a relief. I did call today and they’ve taken bloods now and I need to go again Monday to see if the levels have changed. Hoping it’s just a delayed one because of how early it is, I’ve seen that a few times on this app x

Little update - eventually started bleeding today, it was very delayed (48hrs after second stage) but at least it’s here and will have more blood tests anyway on Monday so will know Tuesday if it has been successful x

I had a chemical pregnancy/early miscarriage probably around 4-6 weeks. I was breastfeeding, no periods, I only knew because I was throwing up and I only throw up like that when pregnant and DH and my mum said are you pregnant and I only took a test to prove I wasn’t… I was. A few days later tests went negative and I still didn’t have a period for 3 months. I had a negative hcg blood draw from docs and they just said it probably just reabsorbed into my body so doesn’t sound impossible.

im in the same situation. It took me 24 hours to see any blood. Took the 4 tablets on Thursday afternoon.
even now it’s not heavy. More between spotting and start of period. Very worried it’s not worked. How you getting along now? I was also 4 +3

Hey I took a dose of misoprostol 1st time after finding out I am pregnant then I bleed for less than 5days with some cloths and then I took another dose after 5days no blood then I waited for some days then took another dose they even inject me not sure with what no blood will the baby still survive after so much dose or it will be a silence miscarriage the fetus will empty itself on it own time cos I was 4to 5weeks

Hi pls I took a medical abortion on a Monday, and in two hours time I was having severe cramps and some blood clots but the next day I haven't bled just little cramps and brown discharge.

Hey ! Can someone please help I'm really stressed out .. I was 2 to 3 weeks pregnant when I took 2 misoprostol orally at 1 am I had contractions but didn't have any bleeding ,then I took 2 more pills at 6 am and started bleeding till 10 am .. I did see some really tiny clots and bled for about 8 to 10 hours and the bleeding wasn't too bad .. it was just like how I have when I menstruate now it's been about 18 hours since my last does and I don't see any bleeding or spotting.. So does that mean the abortion was successful or not ? Please help 🙏

@Tcr77 what happened in the end? I'm not sure I've passed everything either but I'm only 5 weeks.

I took the first dose of misoprostol and the bleeding last for two weeks as the pregnancy was two weeks old and then after three weeks I took the second dose but the bleeding last for five minutes,,am still pregnant or not??
