Would gender sway your abortion decision?

I’m sure this will be controversial, Just wondering if (and honestly) anyone feels knowing the gender of their baby may sway them one way or the other on abortion.

For example if you were contemplating abortion due to family circumstances and had two children of one gender and found out the baby was the same gender but the impact of having the baby would be huge on
your family/finances/etc.

I was so torn about terminating and wondered if this baby being the same gender as my other children would sway my decision. The chance of getting the opposite gender and missing out on the opportunity was a big part of my thinking when I was considering everything.

I feel terrible for even thinking of that being a reason!

Name changed - I will be honest, yes. People will bat down people with GD, but it is real and can have serious mental health consequences.

I have 2 boys that I wouldn’t swap for the world, but I have been having counselling for my GD. Always happy to talk via private message if you need to chat x

Not exactly what you asked but I didn’t care about gender when I had my abortion but already have two children, one boy and one girl.

I’ve been on and off considering getting pregnant again since partly due to the regret, and if I could be guaranteed a girl I’d be much more likely to go for it. I think I romanticise a sister relationship (probably because I always wanted one myself) and feel like girls are more likely to stay friends as adults and support each other. Completely unfounded though!

@Tcr1987 thanks for your reply. I’m booked in for a surgical abortion next week at 18 weeks (it’s so late for various reasons but some of it is me not being able to go through with it earlier on with a medical abortion).

I am still struggling even though I know abortion makes the most sense for my family (my other 2 are teens and the age gap with the younger one would be 15 years!) DH and I had so many plans about what we would do once our two grew up and went off into the world a bit more (most likely uni) and the financial stress is a huge factor as well as space in the house.

When I wrote the post I thought gender would matter to me more and would sway me but as time has gone on I’m not sure it matters so much. I still feel so so anxious about next week and I am so worried that I will instantly regret the decision. I still can’t speak to DH without crying! Just so stuck on what to do. I hear of so many people regretting it if they are not entirely sure!
