Medical abortion - do I need someone there?

Booked to start my MA on Tuesday - will be 6 weeks exactly (based on last period).

My partner is taking Wednesday off when I take the second set of tablets but does he need to be around on Tuesday when I take the first tablet? How severe could the side effects be of the first tablet? I’ve booked the day off work just in case.

I was hoping the MA would be done and dusted by now as I found out at exactly 4 weeks but have been stymied by lack of appointments in my area.

Thanks in advance.

I took the first pill last Monday afternoon.

i was fine until Tuesday. I was so faint feeling & grey in the face. Thankfully my children are at school so I managed school run & came home straight to bed until they were home again. I didn’t want to eat but made myself that night in preparation for the second lot of pills.

I took them once kids jn bed along with painkillers & anti sickness. I wasnt in pain & 2 hours later I passed clots & another 2 hours later I passed more clots.
my husband took that morning off to do school run - I would have struggled with that but I still felt so much better compared to the Tuesday.

im still bleeding & have bad cramps but nothing too bad

my clinic gave me 2 anti sickness tablets but i kept them for second lot of tablets
i wish i had used one on the Tuesday but i didn’t know how i would feel after the second lot of tablets so kept them just incase - I only needed the one

i imagine everyone is different - I had no idea the first tablet would make me feel so ill.

Thanks for sharing @Bart84. Glad it all largely went alright for you.

My partner has managed to book tomorrow off as well but fingers crossed I don’t really need him. Fortunately DS is being looked after for next two days by my DM.

I don’t know if my clinic will give any anti-sickness meds but hoping they will as I was so sick when in labour with DS a few years back so I’m assuming this will do the same.

God, I’m so scared something will go wrong.

I was the same gestation as you & was told as being done so early any issues were extremely unlikely - which has been my experience so fingers crossed for you.

if they don’t give them ask for them - better to have them & not need them. Good luck

You don’t need anyone there. Only for a surgical it’s compulsory or else they do not feel comfortable dismissing you. However if you can bring someone for moral support, do. I had someone waiting for me at home which helped as I remember being in and out of sleep and still had to make sure my 5 year old was fed.

Good luck x
