Post abortion cramps

I had a medical abortion on Wednesday, all seemed to go okay and I definitely passed the pregnancy as I saw the sac with the fetus inside. I then passed maybe 3 more very large clots. The bleeding has lightened to that of a normal period but I keep getting really painful cramps now and then throughout the day. They’re bad enough to make me have to go and sit on the toilet for a good 30 minutes. They almost feel like when you’re on your period and are about to pass a clot but times 5 and nothing comes out. I called MSI aftercare line and the nurse said that it’s all normal as my uterus will be contracting back to size and it can take up to 2 weeks to fully pass all tissue. I’m just wondering if anyone has experienced the same? I’ll be calling the GP tomorrow to be on the safe side and to ask for some stronger pain relief as the ibuprofen and paracetamol do work but they’re just not quite strong enough.

Hey @Unluckyone I’ve had a bit of a nightmare to be honest, the pain lasted about 2 weeks and I had to go to the doctors who referred me for a scan. I bled for about 9 weeks in total and one day bled through a maternity pad and my clothes at work it was awful. I then had the scan and they found a tiny bit of retained product (just a small clot) and I was urgently referred to gynaecology at my local hospital but I think I got my period a few days after that and passed it. I then finally stopped bleeding and now I’m on my period (it came 8 days early and only about 2 weeks after the last one) I’m still waiting for the appointment with the gynaecologist 😕 my skin is a mess, I’ve broke out in a load of hormonal acne. It’s been a ride to say the least! But I would definitely call your doctor and ask to be referred for a scan. Hope you’re okay, it’s a horrible thing to go through. Xx

Hi. Iv currently been bleeding 8 weeks and few days. I went a&e due to pain and did an abdominal scan n saw a clear uterus. I bleed heavy fr 10-12 days , then light fr 3 ish days and then full whack again. The doc n hospital said it’s my period. But how can they no when it’s been 8 weeks straight with same routine. I did have retained product in the first 2 weeks. Repeated the step 2 tablet, then again scan , small retained product, then massive bleed after scan next day, massive clot. Thought it was finally out. Bleed fr 10 days. Then stopped. Then 3 days later massive gush n bleed fr further 6 days now it’s light . N today just brown discharge :(. Yessss my skin too! Acne , hair fall out, itchy scalp. Etc.. I jus don’t no what to do as gp, clinic, hospital saying it’s all cleared out .
