Medical abortion

Hi, I’m 22 and currently nearly 3 weeks pregnant. I had my call with BPAS tonight regarding my medical termination. I haven’t told anyone but my best mate who lives in a different country. And I I can’t tell my parents as they’re strict and won’t understand.

I was wondering if anyone had done the medical termination alone. I’ve heard some horror stories and im worried im going to be one of the 1000 that end up with some serious problems or passing etc. My friend has been there for other friends and really doesn’t want me to do it alone but I don’t have any other option. I’m thinking with being so early on, it won’t be too bad. Has anybody got any tips or encouragement on doing this by myself?

thank you in advance.

Lots of us in this or similar positions. Lots of pain relief, heavy flow pads or even the ones for bladder weakness. Heat bag/hot water bottle.
Everyone experiences it differently. For my medical abortion (age 19) I was in extreme pain with very heavy bleeding, eventually admitted to a&e and then passed everything the next night whilst on a ward. Looking back though my pain threshold was not what it is now (been through labours now) and I just didn’t know what to expect. I didn’t even have paracetamol with me let alone heavy pads. I have also had a surgical abortion (years later) xx

Hi, I’m sure it’s nothing to worry about I didn’t mean to frighten you ! She said her friends passed out during the second pill but she woke up again and completed it. Then jsut the leaflet they give you has the possible side effects.

That’s not very good I had the leaflet, was she with her friends when this happened then ? Will u be at home alone or do you have someone that can sit with you are they sending the pills out

Kittycat0707 · 29/11/2023 20:22

Yeh I know it’s different for other people so I’m hoping I don’t. I’ll be at home taking them as they are sending them to me.

I have my phone call tomorrow morning. I will be going through it alone. I’m sure on the website it said about there being a 24 hour helpline you could call.

Kittycat0707 · 30/11/2023 15:21

Hope everything went well :)

Hello ❤️ Just wanted to post as I've recently had a medical termination through BPAS and also read lots of horror stories.

I took the first tablet on Monday morning. Started bleeding a little and had some light cramps but was able to carry on with my day. Took the second lot of tablets on Tuesday morning, 24 hours after the first one. Was prepared for the worst to be honest but it was absolutely fine. I took 4 Ibruprofen about 30 minutes before inserting the tablets (BPAS nurse recommended I do this and I think it really helped) and settled down in bed with a hot water bottle for my tummy and some TV to watch. The cramps and bleeding started after about an hour but we're just like bad period cramps and didn't feel too bad. The bleeding was heavy to begin with with lots of clots but soon settled down to just moderate bleeding. I stayed in bed for 5 hours just as a precaution but was up and about for the evening and able to have tea. I was dreading it as I'd read horror stories of women vomiting and passing out and the cramps being worse than labour but that wasn't my experience at all.

Speak to BPAS about how to prepare yourself (in terms of pain relief etc) and read through the leaflet that they give you with the tablets as I found that really informative.

I also had some of the counselling that they offer and that really helped. It's been the hardest decision of my life and I'd be lying if I said I feel completely fine about it now. Emotionally, it was horrific, but physically I was okay and it went well. My best advice would just be to take your time with making the decision and make sure you take advantage of the counselling support that BPAS offer if you feel it would help you ❤️

Sending love, I know what a tough time this must be for you x

Thank you for sharing ! My pills should come tomorrow. Would you say the first pill was fine to take and had little side effects ? I have to perform in a concert tomorrow but ideally want to take the second pills on Saturday so I can complete the procedure by work on Monday. I’ve heard that sickness and bleeding can happen ?
