Female sterilisation

I'm 26 with 4 young children. I'm wanting to be sterilised now as I cannot realistically see myself wanting any more kids in the future so I'm on the list for the op. Just looking to hear from others who have had this done already and how you feel? The gynaecologist warned a lot of women come to regret their decision in the future, I can't see myself feeling that way but I don't know what the future holds. Tia!

Hi I've just came across your post. I'm 28 with 2 children and I have just been referred to gynaecologist for sterilization. How long was the process for you ? I've just put my foot down and said no this is my body I want it done, I have a child that is non verbal autistic and as much as I love being a mum I know in my heart I'm done for good.

hi can I ask how you managed to get on the list to be sterilised and how long it is? I asked at my local hospital after my 4th child, I'm 28 and have a lot of fertile years left in me and could end up with a football team + subs. I was shrugged off multiple times due to my age and told it wouldn't be possible and offered the coil which was disappointing.

Hi, I just saw your reply to this thread. I am 28 also. I called my gp and asked for an appointment with the Dr. One of my son's has additional needs and due to my own anxiety I can't possibly have anymore children. She referred me over and 17 days later I was contacted about my 1st phone consultation which is at the end of this month. I stood firm and basically wasn't taking no for an answer. Contraception can make anxiety worse and I just wasn't going through it anymore. I hope you find a Dr that will listen to you.

Hi.. im a 36 year old mother of 5 boys. No yet sterilised and pregnant with 6th.. i will now get sterilised. But i thought id just take a moment to respond to ur post, i think you beed to be certain in ur heart that u are done, and only u will know if its the right decision for u, i had 3 sons at 27, and although i firmly believed then i was having no more kids, i jus couldnt get sterilised, and then at 30 i had my 4th, he was a surprise, and i swore no more, but then at 35 my 5th lol, all of which i was delighted about. And now no.6 cooking, i believe everything for a reason, and honestly after no.3 and every child there after i was certain no more. But my heart couldnt let me settle for sterilisation. However now i feel ready to take the step, im not far from 40 and i wouldnt want to have more babies later in life. Hooe whatever you decide makes you happy. And good luck.

Hey everyone, sorry for taking so long to come back to the thread! Unfortunately I cannot share my positive experience of sterilisation YET. I chose not to have it done in the end as I wasn't 100% sure I wanted to, but I am absolutely open to having it done in the future when my mind is made up. Best wishes to you all! Xx

Hey, how did you get on in the end? Did everything go smoothly for you? I hope all worked out how you wanted! :) x

Hello, I just went to my GP and stressed how my body did not agree with any of the different methods of contraceptive I had been on. I had multiple children, bad mental health and did not want to put myself in a position of having more children when it wasn't right for me to do so. Although I decided against having the sterilisation at the time, I've now found a method that is working for me and is safe. Best of luck to you x

Hey. I was suppose to go in on Monday for my surgery but like you have decided against it. I'm 100% sure I don't want more but I also have to take into account how fast your life can change so I'm putting it off until I'm a little into my 30s x

Good for you for making the right decision for you 💜 I contacted my GP in November last year and was then called for a face to face appointment and given info and paperwork on the op and aftercare, asked to sign the form and then told to wait for a date for the op. I was then offered to have the op in Jan but decided against it. Not a bad wait at all. I hope it's been the same for you x
