Can I opt for surgical abortion (4 weeks)

Hi

I have a Bpas consultation this week but I’m wondering in the meantime can I request a surgical abortion over pills? Is it my choice? Does anyone have experience of surgical approx 4 weeks gestation? Was it a faster recovery? Thanks

I think it will depend on your region? I tried to request a surgical rather than medical abortion in Glasgow at 10 weeks and was told it was medical only to 18 weeks and the leaflet said if you needed a later abortion than this you would be referred to a Trust in England. So it might be this isn't offered in your area.

Hi, did you manage to get a surgical abortion? I’m the same as you, I’m only 4 weeks and I would prefer a surgical over medical but not sure if it’s my choice?! I have my consultation tomorrow x

I'm about to have one at 5 weeks and I've had one before at just before 10 weeks. The lovely nurse on the phone said it'd just seem like a bit of a worse period because it's so early.

Don't know if that helps

Thanks! Did you get to choose which one you had? I really don’t want to take the pills, I’d rather have the surgical removal x

I was asked amd I said I believed medical was more appropriate where I was at. Why do you not want medica? The day 1 tablet is swallowed but day 2 tablets are recommended to be inserted vaginally.

It’s because I’m on Sertraline for anxiety and I’ve been told there can be an interaction between the termination medication and Sertraline. It can cause a dangerous abnormal heartbeat apparently?! 🤷🏻‍♀️ but I will ask the nurse today and see if that’s a concern or not x
