Being older parents

I’m 38, DH is 45 and DD is 8(she will be 9 when the baby is due). I’ve just found out I’m pregnant which is completely unplanned.
I’m in turmoil over whether to keep the baby. One of my many fears is DH and I being older parents. I’m worried about our ability to be an active, attentive parents to a young child in our 40s and 50s. Or if it’s fair on the child to have parents in their 50s while they’re still in primary school.

I’m leaning towards having an abortion but at the same time part of me is hoping that I can change my mind and everything will be OK. I really don’t know what to do.

I don’t think that’s old at all. In fact in ten years time you’ll look back and wonder why you thought it was too old for anything.

I read an article recently that said older parents (40+) live longer and have a more active/healthy old age than those who stop having children earlier.

It’s personal choice, of course, and sometimes we look for reasons to rationalise just not wanting to be pregnant - it’s okay to just want want to be but society shames us for it so we look for reasons.

I also think that’s a nice age gap, my siblings are over ten years older then me and I had a lovely childhood.

Hi. My mom was 38 when she had me, and my dad was 46! I had a great life and don’t feel I missed out on anything , my dad was very good to me and spent loads of time with me so I don’t think age should put you off. They are still both with me today and I’m now in my mid 30s. I have had a few friends lose their parents at younger ages than me, we never know what will happen and when so don’t let age put u off, you’re still young.
