Selective Reduction for non medical reason

Hi,
Does anyone have any experience of going through selective reduction for twins with no medical reason.
We have been trying for another child and found out we’re expecting fraternal twins, this is a huge shock and have now been debating abortion.
But selective reduction is something I’m interested in finding out about first, if possible.
Im scared if we go down the abortion route that when we try again it will be twins again.
Any advice please

What are your reasons?

I think it is only for medical reasons in the UK if that is where you are, OP.

Hi, I just wondered what the outcome of this question was if you don’t mind me asking as I am in the same position now x

@Boymama13102022 Unfortunately I chose to have an abortion. I felt like I was running out of time for a decision and not enough information about selective reduction. It is something that can be done though, I spoke to a few people on here who have been through it, so it is possible.

Thank you for you reply, this must have been a tough decision for you to have to make.
there is defiantly not enough information regarding this and I believe everyone woman should have the right to make that decision as it’s their body after all.

@Villan89 I just wondered if you have gone on to get pregnant again? I went through the same last year and as of yet haven't ttc again although I am so desperate to have another baby.

Villan89 · 12/10/2023 13:58

@mrsjrbp Yes I am currently 13 weeks pregnant with one baby.
It was very worrying to try again but I knew I really wanted to. I then had an early private scan to check it was just one. X
