Took mifepristone and changed my mind

Long story short, I decided to have a medical abortion. My husband said he 100% didn’t want another child. We had discussed it a couple of days before I found out and I agreed and he was going to get a vasectomy.

I have a 3 YO and 6YO so just coming out of nappy stage. We rely heavily on my husband too.

I had to have a scan on Wednesday just gone because they were worried the embryo might be ectopic. I think it just made it more real. Now I’ve taken the first pill (Mifepristone) and changed my mind.

I called BPAS yesterday who told me I have a 50/50 chance of survival in the n 3 days after and then to organise a viability scan and to get in touch with midwives today. I’m having very mild cramping that’s just a constant ache but no bleeding or other symptoms.

Wanted to see if anyone else has been through this and had similar symptoms? . And also for a bit of support. I feel terrible. I really hope this isn’t triggering for anyone. Just really need some support 😢

I’ve started bleeding now. Not spotting bug bleeding. It’s been approx 36 hours since I took it. I’m going to keep an eye but not sure there’s much hope nos

Ah sorry, Jess. I did the pills 13 years ago. I think they start to work as soon as you take them. Hand hold. Be kind to yourself. I hope that there is a chance they don't work.

@Jessmumofboys I didn’t want to read and not reply because I’ve posted on pregnancy choices before and not had much response, it’s a bit of a quiet area and it just makes it harder when you really want to hear from someone who’s been through similar.

I had an abortion around 3 weeks ago, when I took the first pill I had what you describe, a dull ache sort of like when you expect your period to come any minute. I didn’t have any bleeding until after my next set of pills. However, before I took my next set the nurse advised me if I was having second thoughts then it was in the hands of the gods as I’d already taken the first pill.

If I were you I’d get a private scan as soon as possible to see where you stand, that’s the only way you’ll know. I wish you luck and I hope it goes okay. If you need anyone to talk to just drop me a private message if you like x

Thank you for your support 😭. Sad to say the bleeding got worse and some more clots so decided it was probably for the best to carry on with the other meds as you can in a 48 hour window. having the pains increasing now.

I feel lucky to have such a supportive family and the support here too is invaluable.

I wish anyone on here going through the same thing, the best of luck who may be in the same situation. It’s such a hard decision to make 😢.

Sorry to hear…

One of the hardest in the world x

Sorry the bleeding carried on. I was the same. Had a bad emotional reaction to the first pill and desperately wanted to change my mind. I started spotting and decided at that point to carry on with the next set of pills. I had placenta issues with my first pregnancy and couldn’t have coped with the anxiety of whether or not I’d messed with the placenta and if it would’ve affected the baby. Would’ve been my third child and similar ages of first two kids too. Here if you do want to chat. It’s great you have lots of support at home too. Go easy on yourself ❤️

How are you & how have you got on? Took mine 24 hours ago :-/

Alice43 · 05/07/2023 02:09

I know how you feel. I've been so determined to have an abortion but when it came to taking the first pill, I was extremely scared. The side effects were horrible and I started to think if the unborn fetus was feeling anything. I'm currently deciding not to take the next tables. I'm just worried now if I continue with the pregnancy, is it going to be deformed or disabled? Anyone who decided not to take the next tablets, and have healthy babies?

Confusedx1000 · 06/07/2023 09:50

@Alice43 I haven't had my baby yet but I took the first tablet at 10 weeks & never carried on with the misoprostol. I turn 24 weeks at the weekend and had a few scans, both NHS & private, baby girl is perfectly healthy & wiggling as we speak 🥰
I kept a diary of my symptoms after taking the mifepristone but decided to delete it once I knew she was ok. It was mainly a small amount of brown bleeding for a couple of days, then a few more with red blood but it was never enough to stain a pad.
However what I did notice was once the mifepristone had passed through my system, my early pregnancy symptoms seemed to hit me hard and fast. I was suddenly nauseous again, nipples were sore, feeling emotionally exhausted.. thinking about it now this must have been my hormones building back up maybe.
I really hope it goes how you want, as someone said further up thread it's in god's hands, I'm not religious at all but when it came to this I believed as much as I possibly could. All the best 💜

@Confusedx1000 hey, I’m now going through the same. It’s comforting to know so many women do go through this as well, I feel such an idiot for taking the first I knew deep down it’s not what I wanted but felt pressured into it. I did make my self sick after I took it but I think it was like 30/45min after so guessing some/if not all would have already absorbed.. I was wondering though how long after the first pill did your early pregnancy symptoms come back? I been trying to search online for anything to tell me how long it takes for them to come back, it will be 48 hours ago I took it at 1am today, I’ve had some cramping (similar to period cramping) and I feel sooooo sick & have been sick a few times, I did have morning sickness so I’m not sure if it’s that or the pill feels kind of the same? I’m so worried and upset. What have I done :(

Confusedx1000 · 04/12/2023 13:55

Hi @Hxox don't ever feel like you're an idiot! We all make mistakes no matter how much we believed the choice was right to start with.
I attempted to bring up the tablet after about half an hour but I don't think all of it did. Wrt the symptoms I want to say it was around a week after, I don't remember exactly and I never saw anyone else say they returned afterwards, I just assumed that's what was happening since it felt so similar to the early days.
If it's of any consolation, it doesn't always end badly. My little girl is 6 weeks old tomorrow and has no problems at all. I managed to convince myself maybe she will have a physical abnormality or won't be able to breastfeed but I was wrong on both.
Good luck & really hope it goes the same way my experience did 💛

Dear all,
I just took mifepristone. I had a missed miscarriage. My baby stopped growing four weeks ago without me having visible signs of pregnancy loss. My doctor said IT is time I should start mifepristone+misoprostol. It is hard, really hard.
Very different story, but I got here, on this thread, and I now feel how hard it is for all of us. I thought it s either You desperately want that child, or You Don t. IT seems life is far more complicated.

Not very useful, but I just want You to know that I would hug each one of You If I had the chance.
We re just human and we do the best we can. Take care!
