Surgical termination at 15 weeks

I'm having bone next week and I'm very nervous about it all. I've been advised it will be under general anaesthetic.
Our baby sadly has chromosome issues which means we cannot continue with the pregnancy.

Has anyone been through a surgical termination recently and can give me a run through of what to expect?

Thank you

Hi @sarahb19
I'm now 11 days post termination and feeling ok, very emotional and up and down but physically I'm ok.
The nurses were so lovely at the clinic. When I arrived they brought me into a room by myself (without my husband) to just go through a few questions about medical history etc.. then gave me 2 tablets to put into the vagina to help open the cervix. I had very very mild cramping after this (the tablets had to stay in for 3 hours.. so bring a book, or earphones or something to keep you distracted.
When it was ready for theatre I was brought by a lovely nurse and got changed into a gown and into the theatre room where the doctor came and had a chat and then another nurse held my hand while I was given a mask over my mouth and nose and then I was asleep.
I woke up in recovery and I wasn't in any pain, just felt a little sick from the anaesthetic.
Stayed there a little while and then went to another room for tea and biscuits.
After I felt ok and everything was fine then I was allowed to go home which was around 3pm (I was there from 0830am)
I felt fine physically afterwards, just tired and was a bit drained the few days after.
I'm still bleeding a little bit so just make sure you've lots of pads at home.

You're in good hands, they were so lovely there and really looked after me well.
Hope everything goes ok xx
