EMA not working…help!

Trigger warning - abortion

Please no judgement or hate - but I recently found out I was pregnant and not in a position to have another baby. Me and my partner made the difficult decision to have an abortion.

I have had an EMA (medical abortion) at 6 weeks. I took a tablet by mouth on Thursday morning, just over 24 hours later I inserted 4 tablets vaginally, and then 3.5 hours after that I inserted 2 more (finishing the treatment at 1.30pm yesterday.

I have had some pains and felt very hot and weird yesterday, but no bleeding - at all. I called BPAS back today and as I’ve not been scanned they want to rule out ectopic pregnancy but due to Christmas they can’t scan me until Thursday. They’ve said it can take some women up to 2 weeks to start passing the pregnancy but in all honesty im getting stressed. Everything I’ve read suggests it usually starts within a few hours.

Has anyone experienced anything similar please?

Can’t offer any advice but I had my EMA roughly the same time as you, Thursday and yesterday and want to say I hope you’re okay.

would it be quicker to attend an EPU?

Have you experienced bleeding? I’m trying to hold it together (we have 4 little boys at home) for Christmas and I know it could just be taking a while! But worried something could be wrong :-(

i wouldn’t worry too much, I know it’s easier said than done but try to enjoy Xmas and your scan will soon be around.

I'm so sorry you're having to deal with this. I'd go to EPU. Have you any pain?

Honestly as stressful as it is I'd wait till your scan till Thursday (you could try ringing tomorrow and see if they can get you in any earlier). Normally if it doesn't work theyd give you more pills (the second ones) to try again.

Just an update… still no bleeding (a bit of spotting when I go to the toilet). Still having pregnancy symptoms (smell, sore boobs, morning sickness, heartburn) which should have gone by now ☹️
Pains like a dull period pain but been having pains in my upper back and beneath my ribs. Phoned them back this morning and was told to go to A&E - who weren’t interested and told me to wait for my scan tomorrow.
This is such an ordeal!
