Termination was easier than a period, is that normal?

I had a medical abortion last week. At 4.5 weeks I was expecting quite strong cramps, a lot of blood and clots, but I didn’t experience any of that
i had some light bleeding which only really came out when I went for a wee, and no pain. I’m still passing a bit of blood when having a wee, I took all the medication correctly
im supposed to get a scan tomorrow to check everything but I really don’t want to go, I had the tablets sent to me at home which made this a lot easier mentally. I don’t think I can face going into a clinic and talking about this with a nurse

what are the chances this is a failed abortion? Can that even happen ?

thank you

Hi, I had a medical abortion at just under 6 weeks & I would say my experience was no worse than a period, had zero cramps, bleeding was no more excessive than a normal period.

Given that you were really early in pregnancy when you took the tablets it may be that's it's entirely normal - it's not always the horrific experience it sounds. However I'd definitely advise going to the scan so that you can be sure they've worked as expected, they will be able to tell you & if it hasn't worked you'll know tomorrow rather than assume all is fine but actually still be pregnant.

I had to go to a clinic several times & they were so lovely so please don't worry about that side of things - you'll be so well looked after, however I totally understand that it may be really tough to talk about & physically going somewhere makes it all feel so real.

Sending you a big hug 😊

Can I ask how this ended up?

I'm in the exact same position - I took the first 4 pills 33 hours ago, and the second set 30 hours ago, and have experienced very little bleeding (only when I go to the toilet) but also very minimal cramping.

I was 5 weeks 2 days when I took the first tablet, and 5 weeks 3 days for the second ones - so relatively early. I am hoping this is the reason, or I am having a very delayed reaction.

this is literally the only thread i've found across the whole of the internet where I have seen a similar situation to mine - so any positive outcome would be amazing to hear.

I had a medical abortion this week and didn't want to read and not comment. I was about 8 weeks, so nearly a month further on than you. I was extremely anxious about taking the second lot of medication (misoprostol) after reading all the risks and reading about other people's experiences online. However, I took all the pain killers (panadol + codeine and ibuprofen) and anti nausea-medication (ondansetron) I was prescribed at the same time as directed and the experience has been much less scary than expected. I've felt barely any cramping and it's not even been 24 hours since the second lot of medication. I did pass some small clots in the first four hours after dissolving the misoprostol but the bleeding hasn't been much worse than a heavy period. I'm hoping that the bleeding tapers off in the next week so I can move on with my life.
It's definitely important to check no tissue has been retained, you don't want to risk an infection.Your safety matters. I understand about going to an in person appointment being difficult though. Going to the dating ultrasound this week was awful, even though the staff were lovely and switched the screen off when I explained my decision.
