Scan with BPAS

Hi everyone, I have a scan with BPAS tomorrow morning (not exactly sure why but they've said I need one). Can anyone tell me if they need to see a viable pregnancy on the scan or is it ok if it's just the gestational sac for example but nothing more?

Am 5ish weeks & worried I might be too early in pregnancy to see much & will have to go back or something so just wanted other peoples experiences.

Is one scan enough if there's just some evidence of pregnancy in the right place or do they have to see more than that before you can have any treatment?

Thanks so much for any comments 😊

Hello. I was 5 weeks 5 days and they went ahead with it. I'm not sure what they could see as I asked not to see the monitor. They do say you need to be 6 weeks gone but as I say, they went ahead for me.

They always scan, even if you are further on - they need to date it I guess. Maybe to check you aren't too far or in case it's ectopic?

Either way, if I were you I would go ahead to the appointment and see what they say. Worst case, you will need to wait another week but fingers crossed for you that it'll be done on the day. Good luck xx

I've never had an abortion but I'm pretty sure they do a scan to date you so they know they're giving you the correct treatment for your gestation.

Someone will be along shortly with more experience, I'm sure

Oh there you go, @Devo1818 beat me to it! g
Good luck OP

Thanks so much for replying @Devo1818 & @TeddyBeans - really appreciate it 😊.

I think I'm about 5 1/2 weeks so hoping they'll see what they need to tomorrow but will definitely be going to the appointment, even if it means going back again. I have to have a phone consultation afterwards which is booked for Friday so hopefully by the time that's all done I'll be past the 6 week mark if that's a requirement of treatment

Sorry to hear you went through this too @Devo1818 but glad you didn't have to go back & really appreciate you sharing your experience with me.

They will probably need to do an internal scan at that early date and will be able to proceed (if you want to) with an abortion provided they can see the sac. Xx

I never had a scan as I had my dates right on the ball. I was 6 weeks when I finally had the treatment.

Thanks so much for replying, I thought it might be an internal scan so that won't be a surprise if it is. Just want it done now & to know what the next steps are.

Thanks for all your experiences & input, it feels so lonely to go through something like this - still such a taboo & literally no one aside from my husband knows.

Hi,I would like to ask how long did the scan and consultation take? I got an email saying to expect several hours and I can only take about 2h as can't find any childcare for longer.
Also can't say to anyone about it,so I said I have job interview:/
Thank you for any information.

Hi, I hadn’t even realised this was my original post - it feels like such a different time in my life even though it was less than 12 months ago!

hioe you’re doing ok. From memory my experience was the scan & all associated admin / conversations took less than an hour, maybe 30-45 mins. At that point I hadn’t had the phone consultation so if I had have I’m not sure if they could have given me pills there & then which may have taken longer.

the actual scan itself was 5 mins max

happy to answer any questions if it helps
