Hi,

Has anyone else experienced heightened emotions over everything with their first period after their surgical abortion?

I had my surgical about 2 months ago and first period finished last week.
Last week and this week my emotions have been all over the shop. I'm crying, feeling panicked and anxious and worrying my DH will leave which is not usual for me.

Is this normal? Please tell me it is and that I'll be ok!!

Hey had termination 12th of August for surgical I went back in on the 9th sep and had repeat procedure as there was retained products so just over 3 weeks since that one and I think iv just started my period my emotions are insane!!

Can I ask what your bleeding was like for your first period I'm not convinced this is a period but it couldn't be anything else! Hope your feeling ok xxxx

Hi @RoomOnTheBrooms I had a surgical termination a couple of weeks ago so waiting my first period but I imagine hormones are all over the place for quite a while after, even if your cycle has gone back to normal it's still a big thing to recover from emotionally even if you were 1,000% sure it was the right choice.
Hopefully things will calm down for you & next cycle

will feel more normal, be kind to yourself 😊

@Wins22 sorry you're also finding your emotions to be all over the place too. Do you mind me asking how you suspected you had retained products? My aftercare info was basic but my bleeding just hasn't stopped, it's by no means heavy at all but it's just constant. I expected bleeding but not to still be going on nearly 3 weeks later so just hoping you might be able to share your experience about what signs you had that there was something remaining. I don't for a second think I'm still pregnant but do wonder if everything was removed. Thanks so much 😊

@Jsh125 after the original procedure only bled for 2 weeks very lightly I took a test at 3 weeks and was still positive so I called the clinic I was treated at and the scan me and still had alot of products as they call it I went back in and had it done again this time with a camera to make sure it was all gone it's been 3 weeks since that and I'm still bleeding! Like a period bleeding seems to be worse at night

Wins22 · 02/10/2022 10:28

I took a test on Thursday just gone and was negative home test should always be negative after 3/4 weeks x

Jsh125 · 05/10/2022 21:45

@Wins22 thanks so much for getting back to me.

I am still bleeding & feeling a little nauseous so called the aftercare line who sent me for a scan, turns out I have retained products too so been given some tablets to take & then have to go back next week for another scan then if it's still there they'll do the surgery again - surgery is only done every 2 weeks so it was either that or I travel a couple of hours to get to another clinic.
Did you have tablets before your repeat surgical or not?

Wins22 · 05/10/2022 22:04

@Jsh125 aww bless you it's frustrating I choose surgical to have it over and done it's been two months now and I'm still bleeding I was in A&E because it was so heavy it's apparently a very heavy Period and I didn't have the tablets for second procedure because iv already had kids and they did the second one camera lead so they know they get it all then here for any questions or worries you have ♥️

Jsh125 · 05/10/2022 23:46

Thanks so much for replying, really sorry to hear things still haven't settled down for you. Did they give you another scan to be doubly sure nothing is left? Sounds so frustrating.

I'm ok, just keen to get to Thursday next week & know if I need surgery or not. To be honest I don't mind either way really but the not knowing is frustrating! Just want it sorted one way or another. Hoping the tablets work or my body decides to sort it out itself!

Thanks so much for being lovely & for sharing your experience 😊

Wins22 · 06/10/2022 15:20

No because I had a negative test and hct blood levels were so low they didn't need to I have PTSD from a hemorrhage following a miscarriage a few years ago so for me it's just really distressing to bleed at all so they've done internals and are 100% sure I'm just experiencing an unpleasant period!

And fingers crossed it's all passed next Thursday for your here if you need a chat! And your so welcome it's just a hard thing to talk about because it's a taboo subject so it's nice to be able to open up and talk about it with people who won't judge!

It's our body our life and our decisions!
Lots of love ♥️

Jsh125 · 06/10/2022 21:51

It sounds like you've been through a horrible time, hope the period ends soon & you can start to feel more back to normal.

Thanks so much for your support, you're so right it's such a taboo subject that it feels hard to share with friends & family (no one aside from my husband knows) & that can be really lonely. X

Wins22 · 08/10/2022 19:23

Thank you it's been stopped all day today and then started spotting again 😂 ill get there!

And it is so lonely my boyfriend.knows and some close family and I still feel lonely about it! ♥️

Wins22 · 13/10/2022 19:46

@Jsh125 how are you doing? Been thinking of you!

Jsh125 · 13/10/2022 21:07

Hey @Wins22 thanks so much for checking in, so lovely of you 😊.

Scan today showed retained products still there so had a repeat surgical (or whatever they call it but basically the same as first time round). I think I was kind of relieved as just didn't feel the tablets had done their job, was paranoid they'd tell me there was some still there but not enough to operate & i'd have to just carry on waiting for something to happen. They were all so lovely & apologetic, not that I at all blame anyone, just one of those things isn't it.

Hopefully I can now put it behind me & get back to normal. Feeling a bit like I've been very proded & ooked but on the whole pretty good.

How are things with you now? Has everything calmed down? Hope things are feeling better for you too 😊

Wins22 · 13/10/2022 21:23

Aww I'm pleased they did it for you today and haven't made you wait! Fingers crossed you recover quickly!
And yeah I'm doing ok no bleeding for 2 days now starting to get over it been so tough on my mental health tho found my self hiding away and not leaving the house so just trying to get back on my feet!

How are you feeling x

Jsh125 · 13/10/2022 22:34

Glad to hear the bleeding seems to have calmed down for you, fingers crossed that's it now & your cycle goes back to normal. It's just exhausting continually bleeding isn't it, and that's without all the trauma you've been through previously.

The mental side of things is so hard but glad you're trying to get back on your feet, totally understandable you'd want to hide away until you feel ready to face the world again - one step at a time. Hope you've got some good support around you, here for some virtual support if you need it 😊.

Yeah I'm really glad they did surgery today as well - they said they would be able to when they scanned me last week, they only do it at my local clinic every other week so I opted to wait for a rescan today then had a slot on the surgery list the same day if needed instead of travelling miles to get it done sooner.

I'm feeling ok thanks, barely any bleeding which is a nice relief after the last month, also very minimal cramping, just feel like someone has had a good rummage around in there which I guess they have! Be glad to get my cycle back to normal & know where I'm at so we can avoid any more babies!

Sending lots of love to you, thanks for all your support

Wins22 · 13/10/2022 23:42

It was really starting to get me down I'm still going to toilet and checking constantly iv started and the mini pill which iv had previously which stops my period and iv got the mind set of I'm not gunna let this fear control me and yes a have so much support I'm so lucky!

I'm so glad for you I hope you can rest recover and move on too!
And same goes for you iv you need any advice or support just pop in ♥️

Jsh125 · 14/10/2022 10:15

God the constant going to the toilet & wiping to see what's going on is just exhausting isn't it. I just want to go the toilet like a normal person 😂. You sound like you're doing really well & glad you've got lots of great support around you.

Thanks for being so lovely & supportive, it's nice to have someone who gets it - my husband is fab but he's not a woman, he's never experienced this so he can only understand so much! 😊😊
