BPAS journey so far

I feel like keeping a log of how everything is going with my medical abortion journey with BPAS so far will hopefully help some other ladies that are feeling nervous, reading up on horror stories and getting themselves worked up (just like I was/still am!!!)

My period was due Friday, I thought I could feel period like pains so I was sure she was on her way! But when it didn’t arrive by Sunday morning, I took a pregnancy test just to rule it out. Low and behold… positive! I ran down to tell my husband and we were both just like, oh sugar honey ice tea!!!
We already have a 16 month old daughter who is an absolute dream but also very much needs our full attention still with her sassiness and dramatics already 😂 and we are soon starting a big house renovation, we both agreed termination was 100% our decision for this pregnancy.

I filled out a online form on the BPAS website on the Sunday where I worked out that I was around 4-5 weeks pregnant. I was emailed Monday morning with an appointment for the following day (absolutely buzzing because I heard of people having to wait weeks and weeks for a telephone appointment)

On Tuesday, they rang just 10 mins after the appointment time (they give you a window of an hour either side of your appointment time) and the midwife on the phone was INCREDIBLE! I was really nervous at the start and I could hear my voice shaking but she went through everything and made me feel so at ease! Even to the point I told her I am due to go on holiday on Saturday (first world problems, I know) and asked if she had any advice for that and she advised to wait as I’m still very early on and I would be potentially bleeding for the whole of my holiday and I would enjoy it much more if I were to start the treatment when I got home. I think mentally I won’t be able to fully enjoy myself but physically I’ll feel much better and be able to go in the water with my little girl etc.

So this is the point I’m at currently, waiting for the arrival of the “pills by post” package and I will be taking my first pill on Saturday 20th as soon as we land back home, if anyone needs a hand hold or just a real life experience please follow my journey 🤞🏼

Thank you- I’m on a similar journey now. Best of luck

Leafy3 · 09/08/2022 22:43

Thinking of both of you

Glad you've had a good experience with BPAS, op. I know from personal experience that the staff there really do care.

pepsi12345 · 10/08/2022 04:52

My telephone appointment is booked for first thing Thursday. I’m only 4 weeks so I’m hoping for the postal service.

I’ve also had a long direct message from a pro lifer telling me to reconsider my choices which was unwelcome..

switchoff1 · 10/08/2022 20:20

@pepsi12345 I did to when I posted. Not what you need right now, I think I reported them. Hope everything goes ok for you both x

pepsi12345 · 10/08/2022 22:20

@switchoff1 me too, and blocked them. Absolutely not what you need.

Thank you, same to you. I have my first call tomorrow morning and I’m bricking it

JellySimps · 10/08/2022 22:56

@pepsi12345 @switchoff1 god that’s awful! Well done to you both for ignoring and reporting.

So my treatment package arrived today, literally 24 hours after my phone call! I will be taking the first pill tomorrow afternoon, as I’m not going on holiday now. Long story short, nothing to do with the pregnancy or termination but a sickness bug outbreak at the hotel and will absolutely not risk taking my daughter there.

Will keep you updated 👍🏼

@JellySimps i hope it goes okay, thinking of you.

I’ve just had my call now, the nurse was lovely. Now to wait for the pills..

Louise1402 · 12/08/2022 07:43

I’m also in a similar situation, my pills are arriving tomorrow morning. Been suffering with HG to the point I can barely stand up, it’s been so debilitating

pepsi12345 · 12/08/2022 11:19

Hope it goes okay this afternoon @JellySimps x

JellySimps · 12/08/2022 18:00

Thanks everyone!

1st pill yesterday afternoon. Absolutely no side effects, I attended my fitness class as normal and today took my daughter to soft play and had my lashes done.

I’m 30 mins in to the 2nd lot of pills, will update tomorrow how tonight goes 👍🏼

Mifepristone just after 4.30pm on day 1
Did a HIIT workout, shower, bed!

Day Two
Day as normal, soft play, lash appointment etc. Ibuprofen, Shower, 4 tabs vaginally at 5.40pm

No pain, no cramps but enjoyed just staying in bed anyway 😂

8.40pm went to the toilet, no blood on pad but lots of blood and v small clots in the toilet and when wiping

8.45pm FOOD, very much needed! I had avoided food just because I didn’t really know how the evening was all going to pan out!

9.30pm:
Tiny bit of blood on pad, but more in the loo/on the paper.
2nd set of tablets vaginally again (didn’t want the sickness side effects if I could help it!) laid down for an hour to make sure they dissolved!

10pm sleep, felt cold and slightly shivery whilst nodding off, mild cramps

Slept all night, woke up at 7am

Still minimal blood in my pad but lots of blood in the toilet continuing to have very mild cramps

Honestly, I’m now worried that it hasn’t worked! But I think it may be just because I’m so early. Will call BPAS on Monday if it stays this mild.

Thank you for the update, it’s reassuring not to feel so alone. I’ve currently just inserted my 2nd lot of tablets vaginally. mild cramping but nothing major. no bleeding as of yet.

JellySimps · 13/08/2022 13:06

@Louise1402 let us know how you get on Louise! I’m feeling really good today. Very surprising as we had planned for hubby to look after daughter as I’d be in bed all weekend 😂

Louise1402 · 13/08/2022 13:15

still waiting to start bleeding, I took the last two tablets at 9am so starting to worry slightly that it hasn’t worked 🙁

pepsi12345 · 13/08/2022 17:05

@Louise1402 @JellySimps How are you both doing now?

Louise1402 · 13/08/2022 17:23

Still no bleeding, starting to really worry that it hasn’t worked now. got any hardly any cramping either.

JellySimps · 13/08/2022 22:19

Oh @Louise1402 maybe worth giving BPAS (or whoever you went with) a call!? Although I have read that it can take 24 hours?

I’m still bleeding when going to the toilet and wiping but only light to moderate and still nothing really on the pad and no major cramps, just very mild niggles I’d say!
