Retained products after abortion

Hi all,
I had a medical termination nearly 4 weeks ago. After getting a slight positive on the pregnancy test & still ever so slightly bleeding (brown blood) I called BPAS and went in for a scan. They then referred my back to EPU to which I went today and they confirmed I have retaining products. They’ve given me a week of antibiotics and a “last chance to get the remaining products out”.
I am absolutely petrified of having anything surgical done - hence going for the medical termination.
has anyone experienced anything similar?

Maybe not the answers you were looking for but ... I have had 2 surgical procedures due to miscarriage and I can honestly say it was not frightening in the slightest . I was really worried / anxious before the first procedure so all went well. The second was the same.

But I'll keep my fingers crossed for u and for everything to clear naturally now.

I went for a scan at Bpas as I was bleeding for weeks and they found that I had retained products. She said I could take more pills or wait and see what happened when my period came. I wasn’t offered anti biotics or anything. I waited and no period came then suddenly one day I felt a clot come out then had my period a few days later. After that, all the bleeding stopped.

Wow really? How long after was this that it finally came out?

Hi @Ehc1989 sorry to jump on your thread but I'm in the same situation at the moment & wondered how things turned out for you?

I Had retained products confirmed via a scan last week, have got an appointment for another scan 8 days after first scan to check & then will do surgery if required. Have been given misoprostol but aside from some cramping it's not done much, had a bit of bleeding the day after taking it but that was all.

I had been bleeding every day since my first surgery 3 weeks ago, the day after the scan i didn't bleed at all for 2 days, then bled the next & nothing today 🤷‍♀️. No idea if that means it's resolved itself - although seems unlikely that happened the day after the scan or that it's firmly staying put. Pregnancy test is still not much lighter than control line.

I know by Thursday it'll be sorted one way or another but the not knowing is driving me mad, I'll either need another operation or just a simple scan & I hate not knowing which!

Yes I did. I think it was because I was getting a positive test but on the day of the scan it was negative (but the still chose to check).
