www.nhs.uk/conditions/abortion/what-happens/ this might help.

Can you call the clinic and ask?

Babyghirl · 08/06/2022 12:46

@elarky
I took it for a miscarriage and it worked straight away but I know of people who took it and need two doses to help with there miscarriages. Maybe phone the clinic again for advice.

I already took 3 doses ,they just said it might be an ectopic pregnancy and am very scared now,I didn't want my parents to find out

Hi there, elarky,

We've just moved your thread over to our Pregnancy Choices topic as we think you'll get lots more advice here from people who've had the same question. It does sound like a call to the clinic would be a good plan though. Hope you manage to get everything sorted.

Okay thank you

Call the clinic and ask

OrangeySmorangey · 08/06/2022 15:45

I'm so sorry you're going through this @elarky I know how stressful it is.

I went through the same thing very recently. I did eventually bleed 48 hours after taking the medication however it was nowhere near as much blood as I was expecting. When I took the pregnancy test three weeks later, lo and behold I was still pregnant.

I called the aftercare line and was referred to a clinic for a scan. This was yesterday and showed that I was still pregnant. The nurse was shocked and said it is extremely rare for the medication not to work but it some instances the body simply does not react to it the way it should.

I have now been booked in for a surgical abortion which will take place in two weeks.

I know it's scary but you are much better off knowing now rather than going through weeks of worry - I was also worried about the possibility of an ectopic pregnancy but the scan showed this was not the case, the abortion had just failed.

Please call the aftercare team and ask to be referred for a scan/check up. Everyone I have dealt with both in person and over the phone have been nothing short of wonderful. No judgement, just care and compassion.

I am also going through this on my own and there is no need for you to tell your parents if you don't want. However, you do sound younger than me so maybe the support would help.

I wish you all the best

Evarakkel · 08/06/2022 15:47

Thank you so much

Is ot safe to continue with the pregnancy after attempting to abort medically

OrangeySmorangey · 08/06/2022 15:54

The nurse told me there was a possibility of foetal abnormalities after taking the medication so she would always recommend continuing with the abortion. However, I have read stories from other women where they have continued with the pregnancy and their babies have been perfectly healthy.

We didn't really discuss it much because there is no doubt in my mind that I still want to terminate. If you are having second thoughts if the abortion has failed then make this clear to the nurse/sonographer and I'm sure they will be able to advise accordingly.

Did you call the clinic OP? If you’ve been told it might be ectopic then they need to do an ultrasound to check what’s going on. Have you told anyone? A family member?, a friend?, a school nurse or the university health clinic?

Evarakkel · 08/06/2022 19:13

I can't talk to anyone except my partner, abortion is illegal in my country 😭 and what's worst right now is that am in my first year of university and my parents are already finding it hard to pay for my school
I really don't know what to do
