Guys

When you are on the contraception pill

With me and when I even miss one pill or take it a few hours out my body will bleed the next day

But usually by this point I've took another pill not knowing.

I never know if to carry on taking them or stop taking them and have the period

What do you guys do. Or any advice

Thank you

Sar :)

Carry on taking them! You’ll mess with the efficacy if you stop taking them for a week whenever you forget a pill.
1 forgotten pill in a pack is unlikely to lead to you ovulating and potential accidental pregnancy.
1 forgotten pill in the pack (let’s say the 10th pill out of 21 active pills in a standard combined pill set up) then you stopping taking the pills for a week then restarting is much more likely to lead to you ovulating and potentially accidentally getting pregnant.
This stuff should all be covered in the info sheet in the pack of pills.

I’d still carry on taking the packet as normal. Whatever reason you’re taking the pill (since you don’t need it as contraception), it won’t have the effect you want if you don’t take it regularly. The spotting from missing a pill might continue for a few days anyway or it might stop but it’s not dangerous for you at all.

And again, you should read the instructions on the info sheet in your pill packet. They usually cover what to do if you miss a pill in detail.

To be honest I'd be asking for a different make. It's unusual to bleed if you're only a few hours off when taking it. No way would I put up with multiple periods a month.

But probably get better answers if you tell us why you're taking it.

Well yeah I have always had heavy periods and that's why I take it I tried the injection that didn't work for me just got a month long spitting with that and been on the pill about 5 years and I've always had this issue if I've missed I've just got kinda worse over the years lol, I am going to look into getting the coil I think. I'm just not sure it would fully stop periods

I had one pill where I bled lightly for 6weeks. Then another type which worked fine. Are you running them together? I would if taken for that reason, and it won't matter so much if you miss one and have a little bleed (not advice if using for contraception obviously).

I'm a big supporter of coils, but they are very reluctant to take them out (8-12 week wait here two appointments and no guarantee they'll agree to it) and you won't know if it works for you till it's in.

Have you considered the ring? It's sort of halfway between the pill and the coil (it's internal and you just change it yourself once a month) so might be a good option for you.

And please know it's sensible to ask for advice/opinions if the included leaflet doesn't cover the specific reason why you're taking it. Sure, a medical opinion would be better but sometimes that's not possible.

Tbh the only reason I'd be having the coil is to not have to think about it lol. I only take the one contraceptive pill, didn't know some people took 2 lol

Sorry, only one pill at a time. I just mean that different brands aren't all the same.

Hi!
Is it the combined pill? I did some lengthy research on the same question when I was taking it.

Why is there 21 days on the pill and then 7 days off? What is magic about these numbers?

after 7 days of not taking the pill, there is the chance that your body starts to prepare for ovulation by making some natural hormones. As we don’t want that, we start taking the pill again.

7 days is thought to be by the medical world as the length of time that you can be off the pill with very little risk of pregnancy. After that, your body starts to wake up and produce its own hormones.

Once you have been on the pill for 7 days again, your body is back in the fake state again, and you could in theory have another 7 day break if you wanted to. This would be hideous to have so many withdrawal bleeds, so i wouldn’t recommend it. Also the constant fluctuation in hormones in your body might be a bit upsetting for it.

so, if you miss a pill, you need to consider when your last break was. If it was within the last 7 days then you should continue with the pack as normal, taking the skipped pill if your instructions recommend it. Otherwise you can choose to have a withdrawal bleed at any time in your pack, or choose to have several packs continuously.

You also don’t need to have a break of 7 days either, you can have fewer days on your break but not more if you want to avoid pregnancy.
