Abortion pill?

Hi all, this is my first post so please be kind. I hope someone can help me.

I found out I was pregnant last week, I must only be about 5 weeks, but for a number of reasons I have decided a termination is right for me. I have an appointment with the GP tomorrow. Once I tell them I want an abortion, will they refer me? What can I expect? Will I have to wait long?

thank you

Hello! It depends where you are. The gp can refer you or you can refer yourself. I started through MSI at 6 weeks but found I had to wait a week for an appointment, then wait over another week for a 2nd appointment all while feeling very sick/clouded by stress and anxiety about the decision and the process etc By the 2nd week I was told I would have to wait another week so I contacted BPAS. I had to wait to hear from them with an appointment but once I got that it was very quick and I wish I went to them straight away. I was 9 weeks in the end due to the waiting times with MSI but with bpas it would have been complete in a week.

Thank you very much for your reply. I am in Greater London. I saw the GP yesterday and based on dates/menstrual cycle, she said I am 5 weeks and 5 days pregnant. She has referred me to the abortion clinic and said I will hear from them by end of the week as I have to have a counselling session (via zoom) before I can have the pills. I got the impression it could be another 2 weeks before I can end the pregnancy.

@Helpplease888 can I please ask how your abortion went? I’m really nervous for mine

Helpplease888 · 18/05/2022 20:58

@Calmmedownn if you go to the list of chats on pregnancy choices, you will find one called medical abortion positive experience. A lady started it with her experience and I added mine. I totally get how you are feeling- I was panicked with no idea of the process/what to expect etc until I started looking into it. I wanted to share my experience in case it helped others. I was 9 weeks due to the wait (which made me worry more!) but it was much less traumatic than I expected. Have a read of the thread - I’m happy to answer any other questions. Take care xxx

@CLR1313 i waited then it became too long for me so contacted a different provider. I would contact another if the wait it long as when I did, I realised the 2nd provider could do it much quicker due to different processes.

I’ve got a counselling session on Monday and then hopefully once that’s out of the way I can get it done.

im Waiting for my appointment with MSI on Thursday this week and just starting to work myself up with it, I’m wondering if I should make Contact with BPAs too?. Honestly I have no symptoms really slightly sore boobs but probably less than when AF is due and cramping, but genuinely wouldn’t know I was if I hadnt done a test. I’m so mad with myself took period delay pills for holiday and I believe I got caught then and if not just before holiday (I did a pregnancy test as my period hadn’t started within the time frame was 1week+1 from when I last had sex, so was surprised it came up so soon) anyway if they go from my last period it would put me at 7 weeks however I took one of the clear blue tests and it put me at 2-3 weeks which in my mind still doesn’t work out date wise as I would put it at 1-2 weeks. I want it done asap before I start getting symptoms as the pregnancy doesn’t feel real at the moment so I think it will be easier. How long after my phone consultation do you think I can get this done?

Went to my appointment today for the abortion pill, thinking I should be 7 weeks by my calculations. They gave me a scan and fetus is measuring at 10 weeks but no heartbeat. We talked more about dates and it seems I’m about 11 weeks and last period I had wasn’t an actual period. It was only 2 days and very light but I didn’t think much of it. She said it’s very likely I’ve had a missed miscarriage (never heard of it before)
and gave me the choice of allowing it to continue naturally, or go back in 2 weeks for another scan if nothing has happened, and have the tablets or surgery. I’m very confused right now.

I’m sorry to hear that, I hope that some how it makes you feel a bit better knowing that it wasn’t viable, but horrible to know that it is different to what you were expecting. Personally I don’t think I could wait for it to come naturally and would it to be gone however at that stage I think I would choose surgery over the pills just because of the potential of it being bigger to pass than you had prepared yourself for. If you need to talk I’m here just message

CLR1313 · 28/05/2022 09:11

Yes I do feel a bit more relieved knowing the pregnancy would’ve never been viable. Slightly shocked that I’m further than I thought. I think I’m gonna wait and let it pass naturally
