Medical Abortion - Very anxious (ahh)

Hi all, this is my first time on here and I’m looking for support. I’m 23 and having a medical abortion today - I went through NUPAS and because of all my details I was able to do pills through post. I had the first pill on Thursday evening (was very anxious about that but did it!) and now I’m going to have the next lot in a few hours. I’m going to insert them as ive read and heard it could be better??

Emotionally I know it’s the right decision, but physically I’m absolutely petrified. Like what if I bleed to much? How much bleeding is normal? What if I don’t bleed? Is the cramping so intense? Etc etc. I just have visions of me looking like a zombie screaming out in pain. (Dramatic I know)

I do get bad period cramps anyway - but I think the pregnancy symptoms I have now (nauseous, exhaustion, crampy) will just make it all worst.

I struggle with v bad anxiety - and I know when I start to feel something happening I’ll end up panicking. I luckily have a great bf and he will be with me throughout, as well as good support system. But, I don’t know anyone else who’s been through it so I can’t really share or look for them for support - sorry for such a long rant in the early mornings just been worrying myself sick and I’m not sure I can handle it x

Thank you xxxx

I had a medical abortion two weeks ago and was absolutely terrified but it was nowhere near as bad as I thought.

I inserted the pills because I read somewhere that it reduces the chance of nausea (one of them fell out anyway but it all worked). Two hours after inserting the pills, I was bleeding and I passed a small ball which was the pregnancy sac. I needed no painkillers (I usually have painful, heavy periods) but I lay in bed and just watched trash. There was a fair amount of bleeding, but just like a heavy period. I bled fairly heavily for 6 days until I passed a large clot and then it basically stopped. I was up bathing the kids and cooking the same day and at work the next day but I should have rested a bit more I think.

I almost immediately felt better from the pregnancy symptoms and I actually couldn’t believe that. I felt better that evening than I had for the previous week.

It wasn’t pleasant but it was fine. Hope things go ok for you. xx

Thank you @skelter3! Reading that made me feel more at ease, I read too much and got in my head x I was debating taking codeine before hand but I don’t think I will as I’m mindful of side effects & I’ll take ibruprofen when I start to feel some cramps! The unknown is so scary x

That’s great you felt so much better after, and the symptoms went away so quickly! I’m hoping the same goes for me x

I went through Nupas too and phoned the after care line twice because everything I read said that you would have reduced bleeding after 2 days but that’s not what happened to me, but they were really reassuring that to bleed longer was perfectly normal too. They were really nice so don’t worry about phoning if you need some reassurance.

I was quite scared after I’d had the phone consultation as I think they have to lay it out very gravely (which I understand) but it made me more worried than was necessary.

Hope everything is ok x

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 10:27

That’s really good to know that they are so helpful and reassuring - I definitely feel like I’ll be calling them a few times! The phone consultation was scary - as you said they have to lay everything out to you! I’m going to start in the next 30 mins - could I ask how far along were you?

I’ve just inserted them - my brain is going into overdrive so anxious!

Best of luck to you.

Roui · 26/03/2022 12:11

Hope you are ok… I had one 11 years ago, dunno if things have changed much but nurse told me to walk about to get things going as nothing much was happening. I bled loads after it was over, and I did get emotional even though I knew it was the right thing to do.
Just be gentle with yourself and you will be fine.

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 12:41

Thank you @Roui!!
About 40 minutes ago, I threw up and had intense cramps, I felt a lot better after I was sick, and the cramps have seem to have gone away. Annoyingly I’m only bleeding a little, not heavy it’s only been an hour or so - so I assuming it will be heavy shortly!

Now that I’m feeling better and the cramps have died down a little I might walk around to get things going!!! Xx

I was just over 6 weeks. Hope it’s going ok. xx

Zandasstar7 · 26/03/2022 13:28

Hi there, I literally inserted mine at the same time as you. Have zero bleeding and only mild cramping. Not sure why I’m not bleeding.
Good luck

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 13:38

Hi @Zandasstar7 x hope you’re doing okay??

I was the same, I only bled very lightly (spotting almost) and the cramps became very mild after I was sick - I called up after as was concerned about bleeding and sickness even though I know these things take a while. They told me to keep hydrated, and eat something every hour or so as that can help speed up the process too! The nurse also mentioned to walk around the house too if you can as Roui said above, so have gotten out of bed and been walking now my cramps are better x

I hope you’re doing okay I’m here too - we are in this together!!

@anxiousflower123 cramps def getting stronger just had one little spotting episode. Been told to insert 2 more at 1.15. That’s what Marie stopes said at consultation. Do you have too. Sending you a big hug xxx

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 13:48

Hope you’re doing okay and resting up - do you have someone to look after you? I’ve been told to do so at 3:15 - so 4 hours after the first lot but that was NUPAS x but I’ve read it’s between 2-4 hours after the first lot! I’m sure taking the second lot might help kick in bleeding - I’m hoping mine does too when I take it x

Zandasstar7 · 26/03/2022 13:57

Oh hun we are in this together. Did you insert vaginally? Are your cramps strong ? I did and mine are quite strong. I’m going to insert them at 2.30 x

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 14:03

I did insert it vaginally - they are getting stronger now! I went to the bathroom to see if anything would happen and bled a bit more (passed a clot) and started to feel more crampy again so just laying down at the moment x so I’m unsure if should take the next lot (I might do if nothing if frequently flowing lol)

We are in this together!! Xx

Zandasstar7 · 26/03/2022 14:06

No clots just red blood when I wipe. Hoping next tablets boost it. Spoke to MSI and they said I must insert them an not bleeding only spotting. Nurse to call.
I’m thinking of you. Clots are good. Xx

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 16:14

How are you doing @Zandasstar7? Xx
I think I may have passed the pregnancy but I called up and asked if I should take the second lot - they advised that I still do even though I mentioned it’s heavy when I’m in the bathroom and walking but not when I’m lying down - my cramps keep coming and going & I’m so so scared of taking the second lot as the first ones made me sick x they also said get it all done with in one go x

Im currently feeling light headed but have my hot water bottles and water by my bed!

Hope you’re doing okay! Big hugs. Xx

I took the second lots of pills now anxious that I went over the time limit of 4 hours but the nurse didn’t call me back until the 5th hour x I’m hoping it becomes a little easier - and everything goes ok x

Zandasstar7 · 26/03/2022 17:06

I am bleeding heavier now. When I go to toilet not lying down but no clots. Hopefully they will come soon. Still very crampy

Zandasstar7 · 26/03/2022 19:15

Hi just to say I passed the pregnancy in the toilet. Still cramping now but more mild. Bleeding light to moderate but mainly when in toilet.
How are you ?

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 20:01

I’m so glad you passed it! I’m the same as you - bleeding moderate but mainly in the toilet - How are you feeling now? Xx

After I took the next set of the 2 pills I walked around my house for an hour or so which actually really helped the cramps, the bleeding picked up but not too much difference really from the first 4. I’m very certain I passed the pregnancy around 3 pm as I perked up a little bit, and the v painful cramps stopped.

I’m cramping now still but a lot milder than I was but have my hot water bottle, have a little bit of a headache but that could also be the tablets and tiredness x

We are nearly there!!!!!

OP posts:
Zandasstar7 · 26/03/2022 20:17

Same here I’m mildly cramping. Bleeding settled right down but I’ve mostly been in bed.
I passed another large jelly clot on toilet.
Hoping to bleed more
Nearly there let’s hope we feel better tomorrow. Keep in touch

anxiousflower123 · 26/03/2022 20:21

I hope it all goes well for you - I’m glad you’re feeling better and passing clots x definitely hoping we start to feel a bit better tomorrow!! xx
